"Got the job done efficiently, for a great price. Was prompt on scheduling and communication, and the job was done in a clean organized manner. We had some coax wiring hidden and installed and a TV mounted, would definitely hire again!"

"The project was to clean and stain our deck, and we asked him to put stain on a small patio as well. Also, I asked if he could complete it on short notice. Mike worked it into his schedule, and in the end, the deck looks great. The patio is not Mike's specialty, and it turned out okay. In the end, we plan to hire Mike to clean our fence later this fall. When it comes to wood, Mike does a great job, and I would recommend him. Regarding the value, I'm not an expert in this space, but the cost seemed a little high for what we received."

"Need a deck? Have a deck? Either one and The Deck Guy is your “go to” company. Call Barron at 303-564-9505, They just completed periodic maintenance on our 38-year-old, 600 sq. ft., redwood deck. It looks like NEW as it did after their past work. That’s why we again called The Deck Guy. The workers who power washed, prepped, and re-stained our deck were knowledgeable, professional, and consistently demonstrated their commitment to us as customers. The weather was often too hot or too rainy and it messed with the schedule, but we were promptly updated. You tell the quality of a work team by how they interact with each other. Regardless of which tasks or who were are on-site it was always a great team. The quality of the worker surely comes from the values of Barron. He’s the owner and he’s The Deck Guy."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Pavers are a great decking option for pools. They’re customizable, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, materials, and price points, and they’re slip-resistant. Concrete pool decks, on the other hand, are harder to repair and replace if damaged and aren’t as slip-resistant as most paver materials. However, not all pavers are equal in terms of durability, maintenance, and performance. Pavers also have their own cons that may encourage homeowners to opt for stamped concrete instead, such as higher upfront costs.

No, you don’t need a permit to repair and replace a few boards on an existing deck. However, if you’re making structural changes to the deck or tearing down the old one and building a new one, you will likely need a permit. Check with your local municipality for the regulations and rules in your area, or ask a local contractor who builds decks for advice.

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.
