"Had a puddle in my basement after a downpour. They found the crack that was the most likely culprit and sealed it. The sump pump wouldn't fit where originally planned, so they had to add a few feet of drain along the interior wall. Inside everything seems OK. The concrete sidewalk and lawn they dug up for the drain outside are a bit of a mess. Be forewarned. They will ask you to commit to service at the time of the free estimate or lose out on a 10% discount."

Storm Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Installation begins with removing existing doors if necessary, measuring, and accurately fitting the storm door frame and panel for a tight seal.

The time to install a storm door varies based on who is doing the work and the complexity of the job. Professional installation typically takes a few hours, often between 1 to 2 hours, ensuring a perfect fit. For a DIY project with a standard, pre-hung storm door, you can expect it to take about 3 to 5 hours. However, if the door opening needs to be expanded or significant frame adjustments are required, the installation could take more than a day, in which case hiring a professional is recommended.

Depending on your design preferences, the storm door can match either the front door or the trim. If you want the storm door to blend into the frame, you can choose a storm door that matches your home’s trim. If you want to draw attention to the front door, choose a storm door that matches your front door.

Professional installation ensures a secure fit, energy efficiency, and proper functionality, avoiding misalignment and air leaks.

There are several potential causes of a gap at the top of your storm door. For one, your door may naturally start to sag as your house settles over time. Other possible explanations include loose screws, faulty hinges, damaged weatherstripping, or incorrect installation. The right solution for fixing a gap will depend on the cause.
