"I rarely write reviews, but Pacific Air, and especially technician Ray, deserve immense praise. If you seek an HVAC company that truly goes above and beyond, look no further. Our central AC is ancient, and we can't afford a replacement. When it broke, we dreaded a summer without air. Shane at Pacific Air understood our situation, assuring us they'd help us get "one more summer." Ray, our hero, arrived. He's professional, expert, and committed. The challenge was immense: finding parts for such an old unit. Ray and Shane tirelessly worked for four days to source the correct, elusive parts. Ray poured so much time and effort into our unit, meticulously bringing it back to life. The result is miraculous! Our old AC now works wonderfully! We have cool air, something we doubted was possible. Ray's dedication saved us from a sweltering summer. Thank you, Shane, Ray, and Pacific Air. You've earned a customer for life! Pacific Air is the company to call!"

"Highly recommended and I will be calling next time I need help. My heater wasn't heating so I called around. Dylan was able to come straight over, less than 2 hours after I called the house was warm. Luckily it was a simple fix, no parts needed (a spider had built it's web in there), so the whole repair was covered under the $89 service fee. Dylan was respectful of me and of my home. AND he told me they work on swamp coolers, which is sort of hard to find these days."

"I am very pleased with D&D Construction Services. Derrick was our service tech, and he was so on time, polite, efficient and informative about every step of the process. Getting your air ducts cleaned is a big deal, and they offered a more than fair price. I highly recommend."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Most HVAC companies recommend against setting your AC below 70 as it could freeze up the system and cause more problems. Regardless of how hot it is outside, there is generally a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside temperatures, so even if it’s 100 degrees outside, your AC will likely not be able to cool your home to 70 degrees.

The cost to install a ductless mini-split AC system ranges from $2,000 to $14,000, depending on the type of unit, the number of zones or rooms, and the complexity of the installation. On the low end, a system for one or two zones in a single room costs around $2,000. Covering two zones for more rooms can cost between $6,000 and $8,000. For a larger multi-zone system to cover an entire home, costs can be $14,000. If you don’t already have an AC system in place, you may need to add the cost of permits, an electrician, and a concrete pad.

You should clean your air conditioner at least once per year, but you may need to clean your whole HVAC system (including the air ducts) more often. According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, you may need to clean them more frequently depending on factors like whether you smoke, have pets, or have allergies.

The top reason to purchase an HVAC maintenance contract is the fact that it ensures you are detecting problems before they turn into expensive fixes. Secondly, this type of contract provides priority service, which is nice if it’s peak busy season. Finally, an HVAC maintenance contract provides discounts on parts and labor for repairs, which can save you a good amount of money if your unit breaks.

Many HVAC companies offer free quotes and free estimates for repairs and new HVAC systems. Others offer low-cost quotes or apply the cost of the estimates or diagnostics to your final bill if you hire them. Be aware that some companies advertise free HVAC quotes and recoup the costs by charging more for their services. Free HVAC quotes are never truly free—they cost the company time and effort—so be a good customer. Also understand that you may end up paying for free quotes in another way if you don’t hire a reputable company.
