"Finally, a contractor that is detail oriented, demands above quality work from his subcontractors, is fairly priced and easy to work with! Having been through three kitchen and now two master bath remodels, (along with building a new home) we’ve experienced a lot in the world of construction. John Bailey, owner of Coastal Kitchens exemplifies the type of contractor that we respect and would definitely hire again. No job is without problems but we believe that John’s approach to the install minimized issues thus our remodel was within budget, on time and relatively painless. We chose to have CK quote us a cost for all labor as listed in "services performed". ($15,000.00 was the total labor cost.) We could then control remaining costs by purchasing the materials ourselves. John was always willing to offer suggestions. He always reviewed our selections before we made a purchase to ensure that it would work in the space, avoiding returns thus saving time and money. John waited until most of the materials were on site before starting demolition. During the install, he constantly checked and rechecked work. He even tested the bathtub functionality before it was installed! By choice, we were hands-on clients and this was respected. Open communication was encouraged, invaluable during the install. Phone calls and texts were answered within a timely manner. We did not have one day of install downtime unless it was by our request. We asked to include some additional work outside the scope of the project. It was completed at an additional cost but within the same time-frame! I feel that a special mention be made of the subs on our job. All were hard working professionals concerned that the job be done to our satisfaction. The result was a high quality remodel completed on time and within budget. For future construction in our home, Costal Kitchens gets our call!"

"Jacques was great to work with and his knowledge and workmanship was excellent. He showed us various cabinet door catalogs to help with our decision, and he was totally willing to custom-mix the wood stain color we had in mind. His sub-contractors (plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile) were all very professional and clean and all had been working with Jacques for 10-15 years each. As for the budget, we had a dollar amount in mind, and his was in the right neighborhood. There were several add-ons we requested after the work began, which he accommodated without issue. Jacques responded to calls or texts very promptly. We were told each bathroom would take 5-7 weeks, and for the most part, that was true. There were minor delays here and there, and we did start the work late in the year near the holidays, but it all worked out fine. Like any job, especially on an old house, there are unforeseen costs that will come up which will take you over budget. This cannot be blamed on anyone. My only complaint would be that he could have communicated a little better on dates and times when workers would be showing up. We frequently found out the night before what would be happening the next day. But the end product was excellent and we are extremely happy. We will definitely hire C&M again for future remodeling projects. Description of work: Remodel guest bathroom: Remove vanity and toilet. Keep existing cast-iron tub. Build new custom vanity and new floor-to-ceiling linen cabinet. Electrical updates for code requirements. Repair drywall and old crack in plaster ceiling, primer coat. Install new toilet, sink, granite countertop & backsplash, lighting, exhaust fan, etc. Replace tub drain (too old). New tile for tub surround & new ceramic tile floor. Epoxy grout used throughout (this was a small upcharge – but totally worth it). Not included: Fixtures, paint, mirrors, cost of tile and stone. Total cost: $20000 Remodel master bathroom: Remove double-sink vanity and toilet. Completely remove 3ft x 3ft shower stall, curb, and shower pan. Bump out one wall of the shower stall to allow for a bench. Raise ceiling in shower stall to match the rest of the bathroom ceiling. Build new custom double-sink vanity. Electrical updates for code requirements. Repair drywall, primer coat. Install new toilet, double-sinks, granite countertop & backsplash and shower bench, lighting, exhaust fan, etc. New tile for shower & new ceramic tile floor. Epoxy grout used throughout. Not included: Fixtures, paint, mirrors, shower door, cost of tile and stone. Total cost: $22000 Extras: Install new cabinet doors in a hallway linen cabinet. Also new cabinet doors for above-closet storage cabinets in 3 bedrooms. 2 ceiling lights in kids bedrooms, move 1 wall sconce in hallway to recessed light in ceiling. Total cost: $2000"

"Matt came out the day we spoke, reviewed the job, and had a fair quote that night. His team did a great job replacing 2 rotting awning posts on our patio. His team also removed moldy stucco around the house, cleaned, restuccoed, primered, and painted those sections. He and his team did a great job. Thank you Matt and your team."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The impact of a walk-in tub on home value depends on various factors, including market demand, demographic preferences, and overall home features. While some buyers may view it as a desirable accessibility feature, others might see it as a niche amenity, potentially limiting the pool of interested buyers. However, it could add value if the walk-in tub meets specific needs or enhances the property's appeal to a target demographic. Ultimately, its effect on home value varies case by case, with factors like installation quality, design, and neighborhood trends playing roles in determining its impact.

Yes, $5,000 is a healthy budget for a DIY bathroom renovation. It can go a long way in making the space more accessible and stylishly spa-like. Providing you stick to modest materials and don’t make any major plumbing or structural changes, you can upgrade fixtures, retile, and add some stylish bathroom accessories and savvy storage solutions to maximize the space.

An alcove tub is designed to fit into a three-walled enclosure in a bathroom. A drop-in tub, on the other hand, is placed into a custom-built frame or enclosure. This frame can be fitted to an alcove, making a drop-in tub a viable alternative if you want a more custom or spa-like look. Because the frame is custom, drop-in tubs offer more design flexibility and a wider range of materials, such as cultured marble or tile, compared to the simpler acrylic or fiberglass of a typical alcove tub. The frame for a drop-in tub can also be placed anywhere in the bathroom it fits, not just in an alcove.

Fiberglass tubs last between 10 and 15 years or more if they’re well-maintained. Proper care will help them last as long as possible. However, fiberglass bathtubs are prone to cracking, fading, and scratches over time. Bathtub installation by a plumber is one of the best ways to ensure your tub has the right support to last its full lifespan.

It’s substantially less expensive to reglaze a tub than to replace it. The average cost of reglazing a bathtub is between $400 and $700, but that range may be higher based on where you live and the type of tub you have. Meanwhile, if you want to replace the bathtub, you’re looking at $2,000 to $9,400, with the average close to $5,700.
