"INCREDIBLE! â …â …â …â …â … I am doing sympathetic restoration to our 1964 Eichler home. With patience, love, and a lot of elbow grease, Iâ m bringing this home back to its original glory. We recently replaced our old kitchen linoleum with Armstrong VCT tiles. The installer does not do the required waxing upon install. To properly wax new VCT, the top layer of wax must first be stripped, then new wax must be applied. I looked EVERYWHERE for someone to do this. I finally reached out to an Eichler forum, and Cork Carpet Cleaning and Floor Care, Inc. was HIGHLY recommended. Now, I am ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommending them to you. Through every step of the process, start to finish, I think I have never worked with such a professional, friendly, respectful, competent team. I texted Jonathan, the owner, and immediately received a call back. He was incredibly friendly, asked me specifics about my job, and said heâ d be willing to come all the way from Palo Alto to Concord to do an estimate. During this call, I learned heâ d also be willing to clean and wax the aggregate in our foyer. I didnâ t want his team to come out twice, so I sent him photos and the exact measurements. The estimate was lower than I had anticipated. Due to his professional, friendly demeanor, along with the high recommendation, I felt very comfortable setting a date. The day of service, I not only received a text from Victor stating he and Adrian would be here at 10 AM, but Jonathan also texted me to confirm theyâ d be there on time. He said heâ d be available for ANY questions, so please do not hesitate to reach out to him. Adrian and Victor arrived five minutes early - all the way from Palo Alto. They were friendly and open to a couple initial questions and concerns. They explained their process and the materials they planned to use (and gave me two options for the aggregate). They covered our new dishwasher and refrigerator (which was already moved off the VCT) with plastic. We are having all new carpet installed soon. They cut back the ole carpet which was touching the VCT tiles (with my permission) in a perfect line away from the VCT, so they could properly wax all the way to the edges. They then got to work on both the aggregate and the VCT. With every movement they made, I could tell they were taking great pains not to mar the original mahogany walls, scratch the floors, or scuff the paint. Throughout the entire process, they treated our house as if it were their own home(s).They were complete sooner than I had expected. Upon completion, Adrian and Victor explained, in depth, how to properly care for the floors. They brought our dingy, dirt-encrusted aggregate back to life. I could actually finally see the colors in all of the stones. Iâ m quite sure it now looks as good (or better) than it did in 1964. And our VCT floors? They are GLEAMING and GLORIOUS! Jonathan and his amazing team (yeah Adrian and Victor!) far exceeded my expectations - in every possible way - from start to finish. I sincerely cannot recommend Cork Carpet Cleaning and Floor Care, Inc. enough."

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

Buffing will only remove scratches at the surface level of your flooring. You may also need to apply hardwood floor wax to restore the wax layer. To remove deeper scratches, you’ll need another floor repair method like sanding; however, if you sand the floor, you’ll also need to stain and seal it.

Yes, you can polish an old cement floor. However, be aware that the first pass with the concrete grinder may reveal a few surprises and imperfections. You may also have to contend with the consequences of previous floor coverings, such as tile or carpet, which can leave a pattern in the concrete. Old concrete is more likely to produce uneven results if you want to use a dye or other coloring.

Dust mops are the best option for tackling dirt and dust on marble floors. Vacuums aren’t a good idea as the brushes and beater rolls can scratch and damage your marble floors. If you must use a vacuum, make sure your vacuum has a setting for hard floors, and take care not to apply too much pressure when rolling the vacuum across your marble floor.

A floor polisher won’t remove scratches from a wood floor, but the polish can fill in surface scratches and make them all but invisible. If you run your fingernail gently over the scratch and it doesn’t catch, chances are that the polish will hide it. If it does catch, you might want to have your floors fully refinished, and you might need to have a professional floor sander in for particularly deep scratches. When in doubt, call a professional floor polisher to determine if polish will fill in your scratches or if you need more in-depth services.

Yes, polished concrete floors are worth it for homeowners who want durability, style, and low maintenance in one sleek flooring surface. You get the modern visual appeal of stone or tile with far less upkeep and far less cost. Polished concrete flooring is tough enough for high-traffic areas, it’s a great choice for people with allergies, and it’s easy to clean. If your existing concrete is in good shape, polishing it can give you solid value that shines on for years.
