"Tim and his crew are the kind of professionals you hope never retire because they are one-in-a-million in perfectionism, timeliness, fairness and going the extra mile. No detail is left unattended - they will even fix mistakes homeowners made! We have used Grand Illusions for exterior paint, patio & deck, eaves, interior painting, doors, and even interior design features -all without a blemish. They are remarkable indeed. Because of Tim's experience, he is a wonderful adviser when we have been unsure how to proceed on a project or what colors to use. This is a benefit we have never found elsewhere. I have Tim on speed dial!"

"Got paint crew arrived promptly and not only painted the exterior of my home but made some of the wood trim look like new. I was really impressed. It has been a few months since the job was completed and the house continues to look great. Easy to work with and cleaned up after themselves. 5 star!"

"From the first phone call to the office to get an estimate, to when the estimator came out to bid the job, to when the Forman came out to confirm the work that needed to be done, to the first day the crew showed up to start the job the process was professional and smooth. I would not only recommend Foothill Painting, I would use them again! I was very happy with the attention to detail and the good job Foothill Painting did. The preparation, patching and paint job was done well and the stucco repair matched the existing stucco real well. The Forman took his time to help us and make sure we choose the right colors for the house. It is apparent these guys take pride in their job! (rare these days) As with any large job there will be things you notice a week or two later that need to be touched up. All it took was a phone call to the office and one of the original crew members came out to take care of every request. Not only was everything done to my expectations, it was done with a smile and great attitude! Foothill Painting-Highly Recommended!!!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Painting a damaged pool deck is not recommended if the substrate is crumbling, cracking, spalling, or otherwise actively deteriorating. Continuing deterioration will result in the paint also delaminating or flaking off the damaged surface. Minor damage such as chips or hairline cracks that are not actively deteriorating can often be repaired enough to paint over. A damaged pool deck with a lot of cracking and deterioration should be replaced for best results.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.
