"We hired Juan for our kitchen backsplash and floor tile installation on our kitchen upgrade project. We ended up hiring him for cabinet, countertop, and range hood installation, too! Juan and his team were absolutely wonderful to work with. He was prompt, professional, and an excellent communicator. His work and commitment to getting it right came through every day, and he has a very collaborative style. His advice gave us confidence in the decisions we were making about materials and installation. Because our home is 100 years old and has many quirks, we had a few surprises along the way. Juan didn't hesitate to offer up solutions. (He put in 6 shims to level our window sill! Something we didn't even know we needed). Our kitchen turned out better than we could have imagined, and it's because of Juan's commitment to excellence (and patience with us!) that it turned out so well."

"If you need a handyman, Carlos Painting and Handyman services are absolutely the way to go! From the first correspondence, Carlos was professional and prompt.  His work (and that of his very capable assistant Luis)  included the following:
  • *installing doorknobs and smoke alarms,
*sealing, priming and painting the outside of our living room and dining room windows,
*completely redoing a skylight in the kitchen (cleaning, scraping, priming, painting) It's absolutely beautiful and has changed the look and feel of our whole kitchen!
*installing two light fixtures (this included fixing the wiring in both),
 *painting kitchen cabinets,
*regrouting the kitchen sink,
*priming and painting the baseboards in the living room, dining room and hallway,
*fixing a water damaged wall
*Priming and painting the trim around the living and dining room windows.
*priming and painting the wall around the living room windows
*removing the carpet in the  large  hallway and cleaning up the hardwood underneath, (gorgeous)
*taking the paint off of some tiling in the bathroom.
Carlos brought all of the supplies and even went to home depot to pick up some items for projects that I had added to the original list.  Carlos is a perfectionist who takes great pride in his work.
He is a great listener when you explain what you need and makes valuable suggestions!
I love walking around the house and seeing all of the wonderful improvements.  If houses could smile, mine would have the biggest around.
Thank you Carlos, I look forward to our next project !

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

A ceramic tile service project in an older San Francisco home often impacts other systems. Your contractor may need to relocate plumbing lines or upgrade electrical circuits for GFCI outlets and heated floors. Structural work, such as reinforcing floor joists to support heavy tile, is also common. If your project requires multiple permits or a structural engineer's input, it's a clear sign of these interactions.

Helpful?

In San Francisco, you can find full-service tile installation companies for general projects, as well as specialized professionals. These include bathroom tile experts focused on waterproofing, kitchen backsplash installers, and floor tile specialists. Given the city's historic homes, you can also find restoration specialists who are skilled at repairing and matching tile in Victorian-era properties, ensuring a seamless and authentic result for your project.

Helpful?

When comparing quotes for a ceramic tile service, watch for bids that are significantly lower than others, as this may signal substandard materials. Be cautious of professionals who are unwilling to provide a written contract, which is required for many projects in CA. Other red flags include a lack of itemized costs for labor and materials, high-pressure sales tactics, and requests for full payment upfront.

Helpful?

During a ceramic tile service in San Francisco, unexpected issues often arise. Demolition can reveal the need for subfloor replacement, dry rot remediation, or asbestos abatement in homes built before 1980. You may also discover outdated plumbing or electrical systems that require mandatory upgrades to meet current building codes, adding unforeseen tasks and complexity to the original scope of your project.

Helpful?

For your ceramic tile in San Francisco, a seasonal routine is key. In spring, check for moisture damage from winter rains and any loose tiles from seismic activity. During the foggy summer, monitor for moisture issues, especially in west-facing rooms. In the fall, inspect and replace worn caulk to prepare for the rainy season, ensuring your tile installation remains protected from water intrusion year-round.
