"Cut down 2 large Cypress trees to level we requested as well as trimming limbs away from house on a Catawba tree. 1 sprinkler was broken but was repaired. Owner stopped by & said he didn't know the trees were so large, even tho we sent pictures, & should have quoted more. We gave an additional $250 cash to our $600 check. All debris was removed & lawn cleaned up. Very happy with results."

Small jobs welcome

"Luis is a very cordial and competent supervisor/manager and his tree trimmer was super clearly an expert at his craft. We had a limited budget and told Luis what we needed and they did it all for the budget we had available. There is no doubt that we would reccomend them."

"I recently hired HVA Tree Company to take care of some landscaping work in front of my home, which included tree cutting, trimming bushes, and pulling up various bushes. I am pleased to say that they did an excellent job! From the start, their team was professional and attentive to my requests. They listened carefully to what I wanted and executed the work efficiently. The quality of their work was impressive—my yard looks significantly better now! If you're looking for a reliable and skilled company for tree and bush maintenance, I highly recommend HVA Tree Company. They exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't be happier with the"

"I was in desperate need of having 3 Queen Palm Trees trimmed as i noticed they were growing too close to my home and was afraid they were going to create damage to my roof. I contacted R&R Banuelos Tree Service and they insisted on providing me a free estimate for the service. They showed up same day and priced the service with a more than fair price ! I was more than happy when they told me that the work can be done that same day. Very profesional and a hardworking team. Thank you R&R Tree Service. "They were fast and efficient and they were very friendly. We ended up getting our fruit trees pruned because they did such a good job and my neighbor has a tree that she's going to have taken out also! We would definitely recommend Mart's Tree Service!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed.

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.

The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.

You may wonder whether tree removal is tax deductible: Tree removal is not tax-deductible for homeowners unless it's related to a federally declared disaster. In that case, the cost may qualify as a casualty loss. However, if you own a commercial property, like a rental home, tree removal could be deductible if it's necessary for safety, maintenance, or part of a larger capital improvement project, and you must hire a professional tree removal service and keep documentation. Always consult a tax professional beforehand to see if you qualify.

Make sure the tree roots soak around a day before you dig the tree up for the transplant. Keep the roots wet while the tree is above ground. After the transplant is finished, provide consistent water every day for the first month or so. You don’t want to overwater the tree, but you do want to keep the roots wet so they can thrive in their new environment.
