"Do not use this guy. He replaced a quality lock with a cheap deadbolt and door handle charging me $250.00 and stole the lock he replaced. Shody work, made a huge mess in my house and didn't have plastic covers to collect all the woodchips from drilling unnecessarily into the door. Kept telling me that his work is guaranteed and when I called him back saying the door rattles in the wind, he said to get weather striping. When confronted on the theft of the original door lock, hemed and keep talking that he could not remember taking the brand new door lock I wanted to return to HomeDepo. I was considering calling the Police. Run from this con-man."

We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey. 

Security experts recommend deadbolt door locks on entry doors because they provide the best security. Deadbolts can prevent most types of forced entry and make your doors harder to lockpick.

While a strong conventional deadbolt offers enough security for most homeowners, if you’re looking for extra features beyond just simple locking, smart deadbolts are the way to go. Smart deadbolts allow for keyless entry using your phone or a code, remote access in case someone is locked out, and features like temporary access codes, automatic locking, tamper alerts and entry-exit monitoring. Smart deadbolts also come with downsides: they rely on batteries and wireless networks and are potentially vulnerable to hacking by skilled home intruders.

If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.

You may be able to get a broken key out of a lock by yourself, depending on the situation. If a portion of the key is still protruding from your lock, try lubricating the keyway and using pliers or even a bobby pin to pull the key out of the hole. If you have jigsaw blades handy, you can also try using those to grab onto the stuck key and pull it out. 

But, if neither option works or you can’t reach the key, your only option is to call a locksmith for help.
