"We recently had Mega Power Electric Inc install a solar system and panels. The President and provided excellent communication all the way through the process. He even met with us after installation to explain the almost incomprehensible PG&E bill. Although not the least expensive bid, his was competitive and I felt he was as interested in educating me about solar and the various types of panels and inverter systems as he was in selling a system. He demonstrated how the array of panels would meet our energy needs and as opposed to some of the other companies, wasn't selling us more than we needed. We are very satisfied with our solar system and I highly recommended Mega Power Electric Inc."

"His name is Andrew Johnson. He is going to be doing our carport next. He does all of our electrical but he also does incredible solar. It was around $17,000 for the solar. We have a big house. You can't beat his prices. He doesn't have a huge company. His guys are great. He shows up when he says. He does meticulous work. The city's came out and told him right in front us that he did better than perfect. He lives in our neighborhood. He told him to get on Angie's List"

"Overall, it was a very pleasant experience with no real complaints to speak of.  Overall they get an "A" rating from me, the only ding being a "B" for punctuality due to a postponed appointment.  This might be due to the city inspector, but quite possibly because they were quite a few people handling my account which lead to some information confusion.
The Verengo employees were always very courteous and up front about the information.  You will find many resources prompting you to buy solar if you can, and I would agree, but if you don't have the $20k (estimated) then leasing it is the way to go and here's why:
Your situation may vary, but my lowest electric bill (winter) was $120.  We have a modest 2k sqft home with A/C and evaporative cooler.  We use electricity responsibly, but we are power hungry in that I have a lot of air tools and appliances.  In the summer the bill would push in the mid $500 range depending on how much I was willing to suffer through my evaporative cooler on the 110+ degree weather days. After the engineering, evaluation, installation, and initiation, my bill is a flat $128.  Keep in mind that my lowest bill was $120 and I'm sure that included a vacation and a few days of maximizing darkness.  Electric like fuel will never go down, and even though they will be slight* (you will have your increase schedule) it is still comparably lower than the electric company's yearly price hike.
While I will not truly enjoy *free electric due to the lease, I did manage to lower my electric bill for years to come and the kicker is that I don't have to worry about the maintenance.  To sweeten the deal, if I come across some money and pay my system off in advance, there are no penalties.
So the system works, is remotely monitored, and I'm saving money.  What other concern could you have?  Installation?  The conduit on the sides leading to the inverter were color matched to my home.  I maintain my on evaporative cooler so I frequent the roof and know what things should look like up there.  All of their work is sealed properly and positioned straight.  They even repaired some previously cracked concrete tiles on my roof.  I was impressed by their service.
  • Do your research if in the area, there are multiple solar companies trying to get your business.  In the end I went with Verengo due to the customer service.  I ended up being happy with the price as well.  If you find this review helpful, mention me so we can both get added rebates ;).

"I'm very happy with the work that was done by Landmark construction and energy crew. At first, we met with Ron that came over and met with us about the issues that we had with our water heater and with the bills that we currently pay for electric. Ron recommended us to replace the bulky old water heater and to install a tankless system that will supply hot water immediately and with the use of less gas. We liked that idea and we decided to go for this project. Ron came over to our house with his 2 people that basically took care of all the removal and the installation of the new system. The work that they did took only 2 days from start to finish and now we have more space at the garage, and the bills are much lower than before…."

"Great. Joe Zimmerman of AAA Computers showed up on time, knew exactly what he was doing, and even supplied a power cord which was missing from the box the movers had packed the computers in. He went out of his way to make sure things were working correctly and gave me a tutorial on fixing issues by myself were additional problems to crop up."

"I have used Josh's services in the past for electrical issues, doors that weren't hung correctly and needed to be shaved down, cleaning of my HVAC unit coils.  I haven't found anything that Josh can't do, and he is SO thorough.  He is our "go to guy" for anything that comes up.  In fact, I have a list of "Josh to do" items that we will be doing over time.  He has a great work ethic, and is super nice.  I HIGHLY recommend him and you'll find that he is someone that goes right into your personal contact list for when you need a repair or something done around your home!

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If you find the power cables for your appliances are too short, there are ways to extend them for the cost of just the extra wiring you need. Simply cut and strip your wires, solder them together, and cover them using heat shrink tubing. Not everyone has a soldering tool on hand, so if you’re looking to extend in a pinch, an extension cord, power bar, or surge protector can do the job just fine.

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

According to the National Electrical Code® (NEC®), the electrical code for kitchen outlets states that electrical outlets in a kitchen should be installed no more than 48 inches apart. This ensures that a receptacle is no further away than 24 inches from any place on the countertop. Countertops wider than 12 inches need an outlet on the wall above the countertop.

Overall, heating your home with an oil furnace tends to be less expensive than heating your home with an electric heating system. Oil heating systems stay warm for longer periods of time without drawing a constant electrical current to maintain a temperature. Plus, heating oil systems typically have a longer lifespan and lower price tag than their electrical counterparts, resulting in short- and long-term savings.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.
