My prior A/C man had recently retired and I was scrambling.... reviewed Angie's List and made several calls. In several cases, I found myself as caller #10 in the queue. "We have a six year old AC system. A few days ago, on the first really hot day of the year, the system came on, provided cold air for about an hour, then quit. The first AC company that examined the system (the HVAC sub of a contractor who built a new room for us) said that the malfunction was due to a compressor gone bad and not the result of his having moved the condenser/compressor to the other side of our house. I called Iwai (who installed the system six years previously) for a second opinion. When the Iwai rep arrived, I explained to him that the fan at the top of the condenser/compressor was turning more slowly than normal, and the system just kind-of whines.
