"We are thrilled that our on line search for a pool contractor led us to the BEST….Mel & Echelon Pool &Spa!! His knowledge & expertise were evident from our initial discussion & throughout the project. He quickly assessed the source of multiple calcium deposits throughout our pool. It was, he said & later verified, the result of a previously faulty re-plaster job in which substandard materials were used & old plaster not removed, but plastered over!! This created a separation of the two surfaces which ultimately filled with water & led to disfiguring calcium deposits leaching into the pool. Mel’s knowledgeable & dependable team quickly & efficiently restored our pool to “like new” condition including the addition of a handsome & generous underwater seat in our pool’s deep end, repair & re-grouting of coping tiles as well as those at the water line! We are now aware of the engineering knowledge & skill needed for a project of this scope & thank Mel, Martin & his excellent team of experts for restoring & meticulously upgrading our beautiful pool! “Cherry on top” is the gorgeous “Tahoe Blue” color he promised we’d love, & we do! Thanks ever, Mel! R&R"

"They did an excellent job. The only issue was that after starting to chip away at the old plaster, they called me and told me that my pool had been replastered before. Therefore it had 2 layers of old plaster. That meant more work to chip it all the way down to the gunite. That would cost $1,500 more! I had chosen PPP because of their low bid and good reviews on Angie's List. I was very upset. Jorge said that he could replaster without stripping down to the the gunite. I told him that other companies specified in their estimate and quot;strip down to the guniteand quot;. He agreed to drop the surcharge to $1,200.
Notwithstanding this, PPP were still cheaper and did a superb job.
My recommendation to others is to make the contractor be very specific as to his assumptions and state what are the incremental costs if these assumptions turn out to be incorrect.Jorge is a very pleasant man who is a pleasure to deal with.

"I saw their deal on this site and called Bill to get more information. He quickly assessed my project and scheduled my paint job for less than a week later. Bill and his team arrived today and did a great job. They prepped very neatly and carefully and did a great job cleaning up after a job well done. The job took less time than expected so Bill even sanded and primed a piece of furniture I wanted to paint. Very happy with the whole experience."

The pool related tasks were of very high quality, but the concrete deck work was sub-par, including excessive cracking, poor color matching and poor quality sealing of concrete that resulted in a lot of white haze on the deck (my guess is that the sealer was drying before they applied it).

It was very difficult to get hold of anyone who knew what was going on with respect to the schedule.  There was a lot of wasted weeks between activities with no apparent explanations.  Overall, frustrating to work with, though again, the quality of the pool work was great (tile, plaster, plumbing, new equipment install).

"Extremely well. William had very helpful ideas to my landscaping plans and my backyard is very beautiful with new planting areas and I don’t have to worry about my hill in the backyard coming down in a landslide."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

It takes more electricity to run one, so it’s not necessarily cheaper to run a salt water pool. However, the cost difference is relatively minor; it may cost an extra $50 over the course of a year. However, salt costs a lot less than chlorine sanitizers. This lowers the overall maintenance costs for a salt water pool compared to chlorine pools.

Permits are generally required to build an in-ground swimming pool. These permits cover aspects like zoning, safety fencing, and electrical work. Obtaining the correct permits involves coordination with local building authorities.

You don’t need to drain the whole pool to patch a pool liner, but be prepared to dive in with your swimsuit and goggles to patch a leak below the water level. By draining the pool, you can actually expose the liner to more harsh conditions, like wind and sunlight, that cause the tears to worsen. It’s best to use the ink test and waterproof patches or tape to identify the leak and patch it up.

Fiberglass pools last the longest because they need the least amount of maintenance and do not have liners that can affect a pool's integrity. Concrete pools last the longest, next to fiberglass.

An aboveground pool should be level within 1 inch—and it starts to become unsafe after a couple of inches. Any slope will lead to an uneven distribution of water, which will put pressure on your pool’s structure, wearing down the pool liner. In certain cases, it could cause your pool to collapse. Even if you’re within a safe window, you may still notice that the water level is uneven.
