"Brian and his crew are the best tile setters in the bay area. Professional, helpful, on-time, and on-budget every time. He did a custom shower top-to-bottom for us, and worked with us every step of the way to make sure we got the exact design we wanted from the shower pan to the fixture placement to the tile pattern. He gives great advice on projects, and has a huge network of excellent referrals for everything from plumbing to cabinets to shower doors to electrical. This was a huge help to us with a recent kitchen remodel, in addition to the backsplash he did for the remodel. His tile work is top-notch - hands-down the best I've ever seen. His attention to detail is unmatched."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The best types of tiles for a shower are ceramic and porcelain tiles. These materials are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain, making them ideal for wet environments. Porcelain tiles are slightly more durable than ceramic. Both options come in a wide variety of styles, so you can achieve the perfect look for your bathroom.

Tile countertops can be an excellent and budget-friendly option for a kitchen, provided they are installed correctly. It's important to choose tiles, such as ceramic, that are heat-, water-, and scratch-resistant. When the grout is properly sealed, it will resist stains, making the surface easy to clean. Tile is also considered a sustainable material. For a cohesive kitchen design and added protection, you can pair a tile countertop with a matching tile backsplash.

Natural stone tiles are durable, heat-resistant, and add timeless elegance to floors, walls, and countertops.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Ideally, you should remove tile before installing hardwood floors, but there are good reasons not to. Removing stubborn tile can be a labor-intensive job that adds days to the project. The subfloor beneath the tiles could also be damaged during the process, meaning you’d have to repair the subfloor before installing the new hardwood floor.
