"We hired Juan for our kitchen backsplash and floor tile installation on our kitchen upgrade project. We ended up hiring him for cabinet, countertop, and range hood installation, too! Juan and his team were absolutely wonderful to work with. He was prompt, professional, and an excellent communicator. His work and commitment to getting it right came through every day, and he has a very collaborative style. His advice gave us confidence in the decisions we were making about materials and installation. Because our home is 100 years old and has many quirks, we had a few surprises along the way. Juan didn't hesitate to offer up solutions. (He put in 6 shims to level our window sill! Something we didn't even know we needed). Our kitchen turned out better than we could have imagined, and it's because of Juan's commitment to excellence (and patience with us!) that it turned out so well."

"Mayan Tile did a fabulous job installing our kitchen backsplash. Paul was very professional and how he communicated, performed the work and kept a tidy workspace. He arrived when he said he would and got the work done in a timely manner. He also stayed on budget which we greatly appreciated. We enjoyed having him in our home for the day. We highly recommend Paul with Mayan Tile."

"It was great experience working with Oscar. He’s professional in communication, work approach and quality of job. We hired him to install 3 bathroom’s tiles, he’s experienced and thorough from waterproofing, tiling to grouting. We’re very happy with the result. He also kept the job site clean and even helped me with other small job. I highly recommend Oscar."

Customers say: Terrific value

"Florin provided a superior tile installation. We had another tile job in out project. But the level of professionalism and customer service provided by Florin was so superior that I highly recommend his company. He not only provided advice on product selection but design and installation components as well."

"Chito and his tile team: Joe and Dung did a great job removing carpet and installing wood look tile on my 3rd floor home. This was my first home project and working with Chito on understanding the process and timeline was a great experience. I'm grateful for Chito and the team answering all my questions throughout the process and I ask a lot of questions. Especially when it came to layout of tile, I even changed my mind and they took it in stride. I would definitely hire them again for future projects and highly recommend. Thank you CA Tile Services!!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Solvents dissolve tile adhesive, but the right solvent for the job depends on what type of adhesive you are trying to remove. For instance, dispersion adhesive requires stronger removers, like bile soap or even paint stripper, but some adhesives, like cement-based products, can come off with water and soap or mortar remover.

To make a small bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored tiles in a medium- to large-format size. Lighter colors like white, cream, or light gray help open up a room, making it feel larger and more airy. While it may seem counterintuitive, small tiles can actually make a bathroom look smaller because the increased number of grout lines creates a busy pattern that visually shrinks the space. Instead, opt for medium- or large-format tiles for a more seamless, expansive appearance. For the best effect, pair your tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout to create a continuous surface that enhances the illusion of a larger area. Avoid dark colors, heavy patterns, and contrasting grout, as these can make the space feel more confined.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Yes, it would be best if you waterproofed your shower walls before tiling. The cement backing board behind the tile is not waterproof; it’s only water-resistant. On top of your tile backing board, be sure to use a waterproof shower membrane before you start installing your shower tiles.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.
