"great to work with, punctual and respectful of our home. Cleans up after himself, very much appreciated since most contractors/handymen donâ t do this. He did a lot of small projects with us and helped get our home Back to great condition! He was able to fix our transition for the door, replace the door entirely, installation of multiple ceiling fans(without existing box or wiring),, replace an old ac unit we had, install bathroom exhaust fan, paint and match texture after drywall repair. He is very reliable and was very fair in his pricing. We would not hesitate to hire him again for our future house-related needs. Great handyman to have in our contact list for future home improvement."

"Al and his assistant installed two window air conditioning units in windows that another installer said could not be done. The other installer from TaskR installed one of the units in a non-preferred window and left quite a mess, including crooked drill holes in my wooded sills. (My place is 105 years old, but my window sills have metal frames and modern windows.) Al and his assistant’s work was perfection! I was so pleased, I have already referred Al to 2 neighbors. Al is great at communication, very pleasant to work with, and honest. They cleaned up everything and offered to take the boxes and packing materials out to my bins. This was a relatively small job, but worth the money. Al charges a 2-hour minimum, which is more than fair. I will hire Al again and continuing recommending him and his team."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

You can often fit a new door slab into an old frame as long as the frame’s in decent shape. The frame needs to be solid, square, and free of warping or rot. The new door has to match the old one in width, height, and thickness, and the hinge and knob placements need to line up or be adjusted carefully. However, if your frame is damaged, swapping just the door won’t cut it. In that case, replacing the entire unit would be the best move for a smooth, secure installation.

Over time, latch components may wear out or get grimy, leading to this problem. First, check for dirt, dust, or debris in the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Use an aerosol duster and lubricant to clean and loosen. You may also need to tighten the screws in the component, adjust the strike plate, or replace the lock. If none of these steps resolve the problem, consult a professional locksmith.

If your key breaks in a lock, first remain calm and avoid forcing the broken piece further in. You may be able to remove it yourself if a portion of the key is still protruding from the lock. To aid removal, lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray. Then, try using tools like pliers, tweezers, a bobby pin, or even a jigsaw blade to gently grasp and pull the broken piece out. If these methods don't work, you can't reach the key, or you're concerned about damaging the lock, it's best to call a professional locksmith for assistance.

While the telltale signs can vary for different types of screen doors, it may be time to learn how to install a screen door if you're noticing rotting, warping, or splintering accompanying the sagging. If you’re unsure whether to replace a sagging screen door, consult a local screen door pro for an inspection and final decision.

Yes, your home's existing sliding glass door can be resealed to enhance its efficiency. It's common for seals to loosen or wear out over time, allowing for drafts and moisture to increase energy bills and cause mold issues. Signs that your sliding glass doors need to be resealed include visible gaps and cracks, fluctuating indoor temperatures, noticeable drafts, and increased energy bills without explanation.
