"I was dealing with a lock that didn't work for several weeks. I was told I had to replace my sliding glass door by another vendor. I put a request in on homeadvisor in the evening, got a call in the morning, and received a quote the same day. Jorge came out the next morning and my sliding glass door lock is fixed. I would highly recommend EZ sliding door repair."

"Halim and his crew were fantastic. Halim offered me a very fair price and stuck to his word. He gave me options and was very upfront about everything. His workers were professional, courteous, clean, and efficient. Halim personally watched over the job through parts of the day and actively engaged me in the process. No surprises. Overall we were very satisfied with the two sets of French doors that we had installed. After completion we noticed that a tiny bit of concrete touch up was required and Halim was quick to get out and fix without any fuss at all. Will be going back to Halim for future projects for sure. I love knowing he's a native to the community, too! You will not be disappointed if you hire Halim. You can tell he really takes pride in quality work and honest communication."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

No, most door experts recommend against using WD-40 on sliding glass doors. This specific product can attract dirt and debris, which can build up over time and make it even harder for your door to open and close. Instead, use a silicone-based lubricant or a dry lubricant like wax or Teflon.

Doors don’t have a lot of moving parts, but they do sustain quite a bit of use and are exposed to harsh weather conditions, depending on where you live. Some common door repairs you might experience include:

  • Dents, dings, and holes

  • Sticking doors

  • Broken door frames

  • Broken or loose hardware

Exposure to moisture leads to door jamb rot. Water softens the wood, leaving it susceptible to damage from even slight bumps. Over time, the excess moisture allows mold, mildew, and fungus to grow. These organisms feed on the wood, leaving behind a soft, splintering door jamb. The breakdown will continue if the wood isn’t repaired or replaced. Outdoor wood jambs are the most prone to rotting, but bathrooms and doorways in a humid climate can sustain this damage.

If you have a handyperson or general contractor whose work you know and trust, they can definitely be the right call for the job. Adding weather stripping and sealing doors are tasks that fall perfectly within the handyperson’s standard remit—and installing the awning shouldn’t be a stretch for most contractors and handypersons either.

If you have difficulty locating contractors who specialize in this level of door and window repair, you might start looking at trusty referrals for a local handyperson or experienced general contractor

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.
