"Power Up Electric did outstanding work rewiring my whole house after an unfortunate electrical fire in my garage five years ago. They were very efficient, neat, and took real pride in the quality of their work. For the last five years they have been my go to electrical company. Telephone response is prompt, service is offered quickly, prices are fair and every electrician who has come to my home as been reliable. When friends and family need to have electrical work done, I always recommend Power Up Electric."

"Garafano Electric has being taking care of all the electrical needs and upgrades in our 90 plus year old house for a few years now. They always do A+ work. We're currently in the middle of some home renovations and they've been willing and able to work with our erratic schedule. Honest, dependable, and great at what they do. Can't recommend them high enough!"

"The electricians took care of everything and did so in a professional manner- and were fast! I would definitely recommend and would use EL Electric again. I felt the price was pretty reasonable. I got a 10% discount because of my Angie's list membership."

"I had a great experience working with Jorge and the entire team. Jorge was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything clearly, which I really appreciated. From the very beginning, the process was seamless. The office staff reached out promptly, scheduled everything efficiently, and kept me informed throughout. Everyone was friendly, responsive, and easy to work with. Overall, it was an excellent experience from start to finish. I highly recommend Jorge and his team to anyone looking for honest, reliable, and professional electrical service!"

"Electricity was needed for a new control panel for my backyard sprinklers, and I needed a couple of light fixtures replaced in my house. The gentleman showed up on-time and quickly took care of everything in three hours, which included making a run to the hardware store for a part. The price was very reasonable since I used the promotion on Angie's List. Moving forward, they will be the first people I call for electrical work."

"Wilson Electric is very honest, reliable and responsive and reasonable. What a pleasure it was to deal with them.My rental had no heating. When I purchased it I was told it had heating in the ceiling and it didn't work. I also thought I would need to upgrade my circuit breaker box. Steve came out, checked it out and said all I needed was thermostats and two circuit breakers as the original ones for the bedrooms had been used for the washer and dryer hookups."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

A gas stove doesn't always need a dedicated circuit. Unlike an electric range, which uses 240 volts and requires a 240-volt receptacle, a gas stove only uses 120 volts. In some cases, your electrician will need to replace the existing two-pole circuit breaker with a single-pole circuit breaker as well as swap out the existing 240-volt receptacle with a 120-volt replacement.

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

If your microwave is on the fritz and you suspect the fuse has blown, you can check it to confirm it’s the source of the problem. Start by disassembling the panel and carefully checking the fuse filament or ceramic components. If your microwave uses a glass fuse, you’ll likely see discoloration and a melted filament. If your microwave contains a ceramic fuse, you’ll need to use a multimeter continuity tester to check if there’s continuity.

Most LED bulbs have a plastic covering, while incandescent bulbs will be made from glass. This is because LED bulbs don’t produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs, so the covering doesn’t need to be as heat resistant. Also, an LED light bulb will usually have a marking on its base that identifies it as an LED.
