"Garafano Electric has being taking care of all the electrical needs and upgrades in our 90 plus year old house for a few years now. They always do A+ work. We're currently in the middle of some home renovations and they've been willing and able to work with our erratic schedule. Honest, dependable, and great at what they do. Can't recommend them high enough!"

"Electricity was needed for a new control panel for my backyard sprinklers, and I needed a couple of light fixtures replaced in my house. The gentleman showed up on-time and quickly took care of everything in three hours, which included making a run to the hardware store for a part. The price was very reasonable since I used the promotion on Angie's List. Moving forward, they will be the first people I call for electrical work."

"The individuals at the Electric Zone were truly exceptional. I submitted my request to Angi's, and within the hour, they not only responded but actually arrived at my house, after their normal work hours, to complete the task. I can only give them my highest rating for not only their professionalism but also their kindness to me. CC, Altadena"

"ALL ELECTRICAL SERVICES was FANTASTIC. Great knowledge. Great service. Great outcome. Very transparent about the project. A true joy to work with. And compared to other bids, which we challenged on pricing, ALL ELECTRICAL SERVICES was very fairly priced. Moreover, Emin was a dream: engaged, responsive and you could tell he cared about doing a great job. If you have a project you need done you have to check them out. I so HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND them...and thank them for a job terrifically done."

"I would highly recommend Naymar Electric to anyone looking for an excellent electrician. Their prices were very fair and competitive, their estimated timeframes given were more than reasonable and turned out to be accurate. I appreciated that David was readily available to answer my basic questions, as well as use his experience and creativity to wire the house in a way that would provide for future inhabitants and household configurations. He was very knowledgeable and informative, as well as creative and aesthetic, and he and his crew were hard workers that paid attention to detail and left the house easy to patch when they were through. I am so glad I went with Naymar Electric, they are now my go-to!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The most common type of electrical outlet is a 3-prong outlet, which has two flat blades (one is wider than the other) and a round grounding pin. Older homes typically have 2-prong outlets that aren’t as safe as more modern options and are generally not up to current electrical codes.  Other outlets you can find in your home include 20A, 125 volt varieties for larger appliances like refrigerators or washing machines.

There are also GFCI outlets, which protect against electrical shock in wet areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) outlets, which protect against electrical fires caused by arcing.

You can install a dimmer switch on almost any light as long as the switch, bulb, wiring, and wattage are compatible. Check what kind of light you have, the type of light bulb, and the total wattage of the bulbs to ensure your dimmer is a match. You’ll want to choose a non-neutral wire dimmer if you don't have neutral wiring. Homes built before 1985 that don't have updated electrical systems may not have neutral wiring.

If your fan is ceiling-mounted and will vent through the attic to the outside, you will need an electrician to handle the wiring, and if you need to install ductwork for the first time or replace existing ductwork, you will need an HVAC professional as well.

Yes, if something sparks when you plug it in or turn it on, it's important to unplug it immediately. A spark from an electrical appliance or device could indicate a short circuit, damaged wiring, or other electrical problems that could cause electrical fires or electrical shock. By unplugging the appliance, you can reduce the risk of electrical hazards and prevent damage to the device itself. It's important to avoid using the appliance until it has been inspected and repaired by a licensed professional to ensure that it’s safe to use.

When wiring a switch, the power typically comes into the receptacle first. The neutral wire goes straight to the outlet, while the hot wire is split. You'll need a wire nut to splice the hot wire back to one of the receptacles, but you will also tie another wire into that same wire nut and run to the switch. That way, you can control the flow of electricity to that particular receptacle by turning the switch on and off.
