"Garafano Electric has being taking care of all the electrical needs and upgrades in our 90 plus year old house for a few years now. They always do A+ work. We're currently in the middle of some home renovations and they've been willing and able to work with our erratic schedule. Honest, dependable, and great at what they do. Can't recommend them high enough!"

"It went well. The of the company, Jack, came out to provide the estimate. He answered all my questions about the project specifically as well as other electrical subjects not part of the project. He was very knowledgeable and experienced. On the day of the project, The workers advised when they were enroute to my house. Upon arrival, they confirmed the work to be and where it was to be done. They were friendly, courteous and professional."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A light switch can stop working for several reasons. Typical causes include a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker, both of which shut off power to the switch. Worn-out or faulty internal switch components can also prevent it from functioning properly. Loose or disconnected wiring within the switch or electrical box is another frequent issue. Additionally, switches may fail due to age, excessive use, or physical damage. In some cases, problems with the light fixture or bulb itself might be mistakenly attributed to the switch.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

The size of your home will help determine the size of your electrical panel. Usually, the decision comes down to a 100-amp electrical panel versus a 200-amp panel. Smaller homes, especially those without an HVAC system, may be able to get by with a 100-amp panel.

If you have a larger home or need to power AC, a 200-amp panel should be the best fit. It’s unlikely that you’ll need a larger panel than that unless you have a larger home or unique electrical needs, but an electrician can help you make the final call.

Yes, a leaking water heater can damage electrical work. Water can seep into electrical components, causing short circuits, tripped breakers, or even fires. The combination of water and electricity is quite hazardous, so it's crucial to address any leaks immediately to prevent electrical damage and ensure your home’s safety.

Just as fluorescent lights are more efficient than incandescent lights, LED lights are more efficient to run than fluorescent lights. The specifics will vary from product to product, but LED lights are typically twice as efficient as equivalent fluorescent lights. A 13-watt CFL bulb can replace a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but a 6- to 8-watt LED bulb can offer the same amount of brightness. Fluorescent lights offer about 50 lumens per watt, while LEDs offer about 100 lumens per watt. LED light bulbs typically last two to three times as long as CFL bulbs, too.
