"Great company. Had popcorn ceilings removed and recessed lighting installed. Was impressed that one company could do both of these jobs. Crew was excellent...very professional and courteous. Good value for the amount of work that was performed. I would definitely recommend Don's Ceilings & Walls to anybody who is seeking a well qualified, experienced company to perform this work."

"Everything went as planned. Workers arrived on time, were polite and respectful of my home, cleaned up everyday. There was NO post acostic ceiling removal mess for me to clean like EVERYONE told me I would have! They were so meticulous with their taping off and covering that the entire job was painless for me. They worked around my schedule and were reasonable in their pricing. Matt Clark, owner, was easier to work with and cared very much that I was happy with the work. He provided me the name of an electrician(Summit Electric) that was equally as meticulous in his work. I am going to have Matt and his crew return in the future to do additional work for me."

"Moving on too the kitchen they refused to give a bid and exclude he portion of the job related to the beam they falsely claimed was a hazard. Again, I would never endanger my family. The electrical job was done by two Highly rated Angie's List electricians with 30 year experience each and I even offer then the receipt. There was no reason not to bid other than they knew their bid would be too high. I say this because they did not claim to be to busy and the kitchen in relatively small needing only 5 drywall boards 1/2" thick on the ceiling, and 7 drywall/greenwood boards on the walls. They were informed that I used to sell 120+ homes a year for 6 straight years before contracting Lupus and neurological diseases. I told them I would be getting back into business and selling about 1 property a week by 2018. In my opinion, they knew I know what a fair price was and since they could not offer reasonable/fair prices they did not want to quote me for just the kitchen. My business is counter-cyclical with the economy meaning i have more business during economic downturns. If a company is only offering higher than retail pricing during high contractor demand and not planing for the several recessions to com during out lifetime they will be one of those contractors that starve and beg for work during recessions because they did not built loyal repeat business from flippers and renovators. I'm sure int he short run they are feeling rich and buying bigger housed and nicer cars now with no though to the future and their home values will crash at the exact same time their business does. They do not have a business plan for this contingency. Not giving a bid and wasting my time shows a lack of professionalism with gave them a D rating in this category. ( I received a good bid for all the work, including the beam patch from a highly rated contractor for $1625. and look forward to giving him huge amounts of business in the future.) I have o guess Thor would be twice as much because they are to scared to say. I really do wish Cody Andrew's boss would come over a second look today or early tomorrow as I am hiring a contractor or this job by then"

"Mr. Lee is the first handyman I ever hired to do work in my
house.
I had removed the popcorn ceiling on my living room and dining
room, entry way, and above the stairs. I needed him to patch up and apply
texture coating to the ceilings. I am extremely happy with the results. Lee did
a fantastic job on all the ceilings that he worked on. His attention to detail
is superb, he works by himself and works very hard to finish the job. He takes
pride in his work, his knowledge, and experience is outstanding. I will definitely
hire him again in the future. I highly recommend him. THANK YOU MR. LEE !!

"Overall great job.  Answered my questions about up-charges beyond standard colors before purchase.  They made an appointment after we purchased the deal and came out and confirmed size and color (which ended up being a really close match to the rest of the house).  They then came back and Installed a new granite countertop and back splash in our office.  They were very conscientious about our back wall not being completely straight and asked about it before installing the back splash.  Job looks great and really finished off the new cabinets in our office.

"

Mr. Dove didn't do the work.  It was two of his employees or subcontractors.  The installation of the wiring, ceiling fan and ceiling light went fine, but the drywall repair wasn't that good.  The texture they sprayed on the walls didn't even remotely match the existing wall texture, so their patch job was obvious.  Also, they didn't reconnect something in one of the outlets so only the top socket worked.  When I notified Mr. Dove, he came out the next day to fix it.  I was impressed by Mr. Dove's professionalism, and would hire him again provided he did the work.

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

The average popcorn ceiling removal costs around $2,000, but prices can range from $950 to $3,100, depending on the size, accessibility, and whether or not there’s asbestos or lead paint.

We don’t recommend DIYing this project to save money, but you can DIY the prep work to speed things up. Consider removing furniture, ceiling lights, and other fixtures before the workers arrive on site. To be extra helpful, cover any remaining belongings with plastic tarps and secure them with tape.

No, you do not have to worry about new popcorn ceilings having asbestos. All residential building materials used since the mid-1980s stopped including asbestos, so new popcorn ceilings have no risk of asbestos. You can still create a textured drywall ceiling with a popcorn texture if you like, but new techniques have no risk of adding asbestos.

Priming a popcorn ceiling before painting is a good idea, especially if the ceiling is stained, discolored, or has never been painted. Interior paint primer helps seal the surface, preventing stains from bleeding through and allowing the paint to adhere better. Use a stain-blocking, water-based primer for best results.

Challenges include potential asbestos exposure, uneven finishes, or damage to the underlying ceiling if not done correctly.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.
