"Our experience was great! My boyfriend and I purchased a couch that needed new legs installed and Dave did a beautiful job. He was efficient, fair, and lovely to work with. We would absolutely call him again. Thanks, Dave!"

"Job was completed per request. After we pointed out our concerns, they worked with us to completion. It took slightly longer to complete, but it was well worth the wait. Many other contractors would probably walk and not address any concerns, but BeHome finished. I would strongly recommend BeHome to do your job. They are professional and friendly."

"The process of finding a company to do your remodel is much like picking a surgeon. You may have no clue how its done or maybe you did some research and have an idea but certainly not the ability or skills to do it yourself. You must find someone to do it and then live with the results. At the start of my first web search I asked myself “How do I pick a company I trust?” Honestly, with so much out there, I feel like I got lucky and found the needle in the haystack. I can say with much relief that Stel Builders reshaped our home into one we are very happy to live with. Stel Builders is a team that cared about our family and at every turn wanted us to be happy with the results. Seth, the architect and owner, listened to the problems and needs we had to overcome then designed a plan for our home and patiently explained it to us. We were included in the design process and felt we had some control over the outcome. Brian, the senior project manager, made sure it all got done right. He let us know what was happening every week so we could manage our lives around it. When things happened that you can’t plan for like rain in San Diego during the framing of our addition, Brian was there for us. Every tradesman that came to our house was hardworking and knowledgeable. When all was done and we shook hands I was only sad about missing them. My husband, of course, was not that sappy. He was very happy to have a quite house, well, as quite as it can be with 3 girls."

"We hired Jake to build a new deck for our yard and we could not be happier (both with the decision to hire Jake and the deck itself). We particularly appreciated the quality of his workmanship and his high level of attention to detail (something that was very important to us). Jake was also extremely helpful in the overall design and planning aspects of the project offering helpful suggestions about materials, potential layout, etc. every step of the way. Jake is responsive and professional and we would not hesitate to hire him again for future projects. On this deck project we were truly thrilled with the final results. Although we did see some lower bids for the work (before selecting Jake), we are confident that we got great value for our dollar in terms of final quality."

"Truly the best team I could ask for! We completed our kitchen remodel and two bathroom remodels with Shir and the Shiro Builders Group team, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. They assigned me a dedicated project manager who was always available, no matter the day or time. Everything was organized, on schedule, and professionally managed from start to finish. Even the small issues that came up along the way were handled quickly and efficiently. The quality of work exceeded my expectations, and the entire process was far less stressful than I anticipated. We're already planning our backyard project with them and look forward to working together again. Highly recommended!"

Customers say: Quick response

"First project: I am very pleased with Repairs & Remodels On Demand (RROD). I was in the process of selling a property that was about 75 years old. The buyer's mortgage company had sent an inspector who noted several issues. Obviously I was under time pressure. RROD responded very quickly. I needed a hearth built in front of an existing fireplace. RROD advised me on what the current code requirements were. I selected material and the hearth was installed the next day. The inspector also reported six electrical issues, four plumbing issues in the kitchen and four in the bathroom. RROD repaired them all in two days. RROD sent a three man team. The timeline for the project was: Day 1, evaluate job and create estimate; Day 2, install hearth, correct electrical issues and begin plumbing work; Day 3, complete plumbing. On the fourth day I notified the buyer's agent to schedule the re-inspection; the inspection passed with no problems. Sale completed. Second project: In a rental property I own, a tenant wanted a laundry area. I had had the area plumbed but the walls had been opened to accomplish the plumbing. I needed the walls closed up, a short wall built, and the appliances installed. First day, evaluate job and create estimate. Two days later start and complete the job in two additional days. On the day after the completion, the tenant reported a problem with a door that had been installed. I went over and checked and she was correct. It was in mid-afternoon and I called RROD and reported the problem. They immediately scheduled an appointment for 8:00 AM the next morning (and repaired it on that visit). It was a small job with a small problem. The work looked very professional and the paint for the new areas matched the existing room colors. The point is, they do high quality work and they really do stand behind their work. I shall certainly use them again. I am very satisfied with their responsiveness and the high quality of work. They are easy people to work with. They came through for me. Dan"

Garages questions, answered by experts

It’s better to build a garage than buy and install a prefabricated one. You can save money by purchasing a prefabricated metal garage kit for between $4,000 and $11,000. However, this does not include the price of labor and permits, which can account for more than half of the project cost. Building a new garage over buying a prefab garage will add more value to your home and will last longer, so it’s more cost-effective over time to build a new garage.

It is highly recommended to prime a metal surface, like a garage door, before painting. Primer creates a stable surface for the paint to adhere to, which helps prevent bubbling, chipping, and peeling. This ensures the paint job will last longer. Painting metal without a primer can lead to poor adhesion and allow rust to bleed through the new paint. If the surface already has rust spots, you can cover them with a zinc chromate primer before applying the final coat. While priming adds an extra step and cost, it is a worthwhile investment for a durable, long-lasting finish. For best results, also use a paint specifically designed for metal.

It’s important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of epoxy garage floor coatings. Consider the following pros and cons of this garage addition, including the following:

Pros:

  • Increased visibility

  • Durability

  • Long lifespan

  • Low maintenance

  • Versatile appearance

  • More sustainable

Cons:

  • Strong odor when applying

  • Difficult to remove

  • Can be slippery

  • Possible bubbles and blisters

  • Temperature sensitive while curing

Fiberglass is considered a favorite garage insulation choice due to its combination of affordability, ease of installation, and overall effectiveness. Fiberglass provides good thermal resistance, helping regulate garage temperatures and minimize heat transfer. Additionally, fiberglass is moisture-resistant, reducing the risk of mold or mildew formation.

The most affordable way to insulate a garage involves choosing cost-effective materials like fiberglass, which comes in batts or rolls and is relatively easy to install. You can often install this type of insulation without needing to add drywall, which helps reduce costs. While a DIY approach might seem cheapest, hiring a professional installer can be highly cost-effective. Experts can accurately determine your garage's specific insulation needs and ensure the best results for your investment, often using batt insulation for the bulk of the project.
