"This was our first remodel. It was a lot to take in. We had five different contractors come over and give us an estimate, out of those five contractors WJB Construction as far as price went they were comparable to the other five. What made us go with them was how we felt so comfortable talking with Josh and Katy. Right away we knew we wanted to go with them. They were very professional and guided us along the way. They worked with our schedule with daily communication. They finished the job right on schedule and the quality of work was amazing. If we know anyone that has plans to do any renovations, we will definitely be recommended WJB Construction. Thank you, Josh and Katy!"

"Awesome job! Responded to request for quote almost immediately; on time for appointment; very respectful with fantastic input on the project; met stated timeframe; went above and beyond to make sure everything was to my expectations; explained any anticipated setbacks, great communication. I am EXTREMELY happy with the remodel and will definitely have Juan and his men back. I have more projects in mind."

"Islander is a wonderful general contractor and a pleasure to work with. He has many good ideas and helped us with many of the decisions we had to make during our whole house remodel. Weâ ve hired contractors in the past and none of them have come close to the workmanship, expertise and patience Islander provides. He is meticulous with his work and at the end of each day, he cleaned everything up and never left a mess. We definitely recommend Islander to others and he will always be the contractor we will go to for any of our future projects."

"I spoke with Matt and arranged for Jeff to come out and put together our brand new patio set. Jeff came on time and the price was fair for the job. I highly recommend All Pro handyman services and would call them again for our handyman needs!"

"When it comes to taking care of our home, I pretty much exclusively use these guys. Not only am I happy with the work done, but they are just some of the nicest and most accommodating handymen I’ve worked with. At this point, they are family. Definitely recommend."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.
