"Guillermo arrived on time, but soon found that the complete set of parts that I had previously ordered did not fit together as intended. Sent me pictures to explain the problems. He then helpfully and competently suggested alternates that I needed and procured them at cost. Despite the change in plans he and his associate finished the job in time with an excellent result, and stuck to his original labor estimate. Being tired, I forgot about the deposit and paid him too much. Guillermo noticed and alerted me to my mistake, and returned the excess payment. When a contractor shows this much flexibility, excellent workmanship, and honesty -- what else would one want? I would hire him again without bothering with anyone else. Robert"

"I had Hye Turf Designs place artificial turf in my backyard and decomposed granite on my parkway area. Despite being a relatively small project, Hutch gave me his full attention and was always available for questions and quality control (he came by almost every day). He was extremely helpful, honest and timely. In addition, his crew members were highly competent and friendly. It was a pleasure working with everyone. I can recommend Hye Turf without any reservations."

Customers say: True professional

"Gilbert came to our house to provide an estimate for the scope of work, which included the trimming and removal of several trees and brush. On the day of the job, he and his crew came on time and completed the work to our satisfaction. Each member of the crew was hardworking and respectful of our home. They were also very friendly. I plan to hire them for monthly maintenance."

"We hired Dario Landscaping for maintenance yard work. They always arrived on time, were very conscientious in meeting our needs and open to requests for various maintenance items. Especially liked how they trimmed our bushes so they look neat and that fallen leaves can be easily raked."

Topsoil costs from $12 to $55 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. For example, screened black dirt will cost about $15 per cubic yard. Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.

Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.

When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
