"I contacted Osvaldo to repair drywall in my ceiling after water damage, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From the start, they were professional, responsive, and punctual. They quickly assessed the damage, explained the repair process clearly, and gave me a fair and transparent estimate. The quality of the work was outstanding. The ceiling looks like new—seamless and perfectly blended with the surrounding area. They were meticulous with cleanup too, leaving the space spotless when they finished. It’s clear they take pride in their work and care about customer satisfaction. I highly recommend Osvaldo to anyone in need of drywall repair. I’ll definitely be calling them again for future projects!"

". We Needed Jim Daniels to Drywall the lower parts of the walls that were removed along with spraying and blending in of a knockoff coat with the existing drywall. Making it paint ready for the painting contractor. This job was completed all in one day. Couldn’t ask for a better drywall contractor. Came out right away to see the scope of the work for the repair. Sent us a email with the estimate that same day. No sticker shock here. We were happy with the price. And believe it was very fair in today’s market. Was super knowledgeable about these types of incidents. They had no problem emailing the estimate with the breakdown of the locations and sqft where they would have to double and triple layer the drywall to match the existing drywall to my insurance adjuster. The two man crew arrived on time! V ery professional knowledgeable and courteous. They did such a excellent job at installing and blending in of the knockoff coat to the existing drywall. Along with the clean up 👍. Will be referring to family and friends!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, applying a texture can hide minor imperfections and irregularities in drywall, but it will not cover significant damage like nail marks or screw holes. The best texture depends on the size of the flaws. For minor imperfections, popular choices like orange peel, sand, or popcorn texture are effective. For larger imperfections, you may need a more prominent style, such as a knockdown or trowel finish, to conceal them effectively.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

You can paint over plaster, but repair any damage to the plaster first, or the paint will crack and bubble. You should also prepare the surface of the plaster to accept paint, which gives your paint job the best chance of looking good and lasting a long time. Before applying the color you want, apply a coat or two of primer. Additionally, use latex paint, and choose a latex paint with a satin finish for areas with dampness, like bathrooms.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.
