"A plus service, Cathi Johnson recommended a glass company since I did not want to replace the window. Cathi went above and beyond to help me since I am no expert at windows. She gave a great recommendation and excellent customer service skills. Highly recommend Metropolitan high performance windows. I know when we do need an upgrade for all of our windows I will surely be making a call to Cathie."

"Fantastic. Everyone from start to finish was super professional and super friendly. The sales/estimate and measurement guys both did a great job explaining things to us, the windows look great and fit perfectly (already got compliments on them), and the guys installing the windows were all very respectful about keeping from making a big mess. Everyone we dealt with had great attitudes; they worked hard but were so friendly it felt like they were just friends helping out. Great service overall, much better than another place we checked out earlier, and the price was actually much more reasonable, too."

"They proposed a less expensive option, install retro windows from a local and less expensive company rather than replace my windows with more expensive windows from a well known maker with a much better warranty. Sounded good but the saving was negligible and made no sense at all. So no deal!"

"10/10 would recommend. I needed a new window screen and found Jose on angis list. He came out and installed it in 30 minutes and charged me a very reasonable price. Very professional and friendly. He's a great handyman and all around great guy. Had lots of fun chatting with him as well. Charged me half price of competitors on angis list"

"I would highly recommend Trident for your window project. I contacted 5 window installers and received bids from 3 of them. Both of Trident’s 2 owners came to my home to view my project and give me an estimate. One of the owners is the head installer for the company. If you know anything about replacing windows, the single most important component is the installer. Regardless of the quality of the window, if the installation is not done properly, you are going to have problems. Troy is a pro, he personally came out with his helper and installed 9 windows and 2 sliding glass doors. My home is on a busy street, so having quality windows that block the outside noise is very important to me. These new windows are a noticeable improvement, they open and close smoothly, and the installation was flawless. I couldn’t be happier and would recommend Trident to anyone without hesitation."

"Great! Mac was fantastic. He got on the job right away and took care of caulking around some windows with leaking problems. Hopefully this fixed the issue. Will know when it rains!"

"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

Windows questions, answered by experts

It is legal to put bars on windows in most places, but it depends on the type of bars you choose and the regulations in your area. For example, there are building codes in Mississippi, California, and Texas that forbid the use of permanently closed burglar bars on windows due to concerns about people getting trapped inside during fires.

In some cases, you might need a permit for a window replacement, which is hard to get if you’re not a professional contractor. You should probably just hire a window replacement company in the first place because the job is complicated and can be dangerous for the average DIYer. You may not even save any money doing it yourself because contractors purchase materials wholesale.

On average, bay windows are three times as expensive as a standard double-hung window, so up-front cost is a major drawback. They also let in more natural light than most other types of windows, which can be a positive thing, but it can also lead to more aggressive fading and UV damage to furniture and flooring. Larger windows allow for more heat transfer, so bay windows tend to be less energy-efficient due to their size. Finally, window treatments for bay windows can be more challenging to find, and they’re more expensive than those you’d place over standard-sized windows.

Yes, bifold windows can open inward or outward. Your window manufacturer will label windows as “in-swing” or “out-swing,” which indicates the direction they open. If your installer is ordering windows for you, make sure they know which direction you want them to open. In-swing bifold windows will preserve as much space in your outdoor area as possible. Out-swing bifold windows are great on the second floor, where obstructions outside aren’t a concern.

Glazing is always done from the outside of the window, while the inside doesn’t require any glazing. This is because the main purpose of glazing is to create a weather-tight seal where the glass meets the frame, protecting against drafts and moisture. Since the exterior is exposed to the elements, that’s the side that needs the weatherproofing.
