"They were on time and worked hard all day. There was one mistake made. They knew I was getting a new hood vent and the final measurements did not take into consideration that the new hood had different measurements than the old one. A new quartz backsplash had to be fabricated. They completed the project in one day. There was an issue with my flooring that I'm still waiting to be resolved. I don't know yet if I would hire them again."

"America's advantage remodeling is an excellent contractor. Before my family could move to Sacramento from Las Vegas I knew the house we were moving into in Sacramento needed some major work and updating. So I undertook what I thought was going to be a monumentally difficult task of over seeing a major house remodeling from a state away. After driving to Sacramento and meeting with a few contractors our choice became crystal clear. It was no contest. Vadim, the estimator for America's advantage, was by far the most knowledgeable and detail oriented person we had met with. He foresaw issues before they arose and made suggestions on design and function on every step of the process. His expertise and construction background paid off immensely on our project and in accuracy of the estimate we were given. America's advantage opened up our kitchen by removing two walls and repainted and textured the entire interior. We also had them replace the carpet, tile, vanity, backsplash, countertops, cabinets, and front door. They reframed a leaking window and our walkway drop ceiling. They also installed our new appliances, toilet, oven vent hood, replumbed the house and moved a gas line. We were blown away with the final product and more than satisfied. I will definitely be using them again for any future remodeling needs. I appreciate Vadim, Oleg and crews hard work. They made my long distance remodel a breeze with their responsiveness and keeping me updated on everything. Couldn't be happier."

"WOW!!! I couldn t be happier with my Corian kitchen counter that Top Repair refinished. After 26 years our kitchen counter needed help: scratches, dings, knife cuts, very dull and a seam line was showing. Our counter is massive. Jim did a fabulous job eliminating all the problems!!!! Priced right, on time, conscientious, professional, diligent and a very nice man. Top Repair is wonderful to work with and I HIGHLY recommend using them for any refinishing of Corian or other types of materials. Thanks Jim"

"I have been in the business for 40 years and he is the only person that I would hire for doing that particular kind of work. If there is a scale of 1 to 5, he is beyond that scale because he is that good."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

There are several low-maintenance shower floor tiles to consider for your bathroom. Stone tiles are easy to keep clean and only need an occasional resealing to keep them looking their best. Porcelain is another low-maintenance choice, as it doesn’t stain easily. Vinyl is also suitable for easy upkeep. On the other hand, one of the highest maintenance options for bathrooms is wood tile.
