"DnA Pajinting did a great job. This job entailed restoration of wood beems that were sun damaged. This restoration required sanding, scraping, power washing, and filling cracks. The placement of the beems, 10 to 12 feet above the patio, presented a further difficulty. The DnA teem went above and beyond my expectations. I will definitely use them again for any of our painting needs. Thanks Rod"

"We have a type of flagstone patio painted different soft colors. The men painted each stone carefully after moving plants and furniture. They arrived right on time, worked hard and did a great job. And they tidied up when they'd finished."

"Heon painted both the inside and outside of my house. They did a great job and performed a timely service. Every request I made was met with a friendly, "absolutely, no problem" response. The guys are friendly, polite, professional, and flexible. It was a big job and I made a few decisions on the fly but every request was graciously received. Thank you Heon. I would definitely use them again."

"Luis was very professional and all the workers were friendly and cleaned up every day they were finished.  We asked him to fix some drywall work that needed to be repaired and he also repainted an accent wall after I changed my mind.  He was very patient and thorough.  They did a wonderful job -- very pleased!

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, it's a good idea to sand the wall with fine-grit sandpaper after spackling, especially if you plan on painting. You can do this by hand or using a sander, but the idea is to ensure the spackle is flush with the wall. Sanding will give your wall a smooth, uniform finish and help your paint and wallpaper stay put.

Essential tools include brushes or rollers, drop cloths, sandpaper or power sanders, and appropriate cleaning supplies. Quality materials ensure long-lasting results.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Costs depend on coating type, labor, site preparation, and required finishes.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.
