"We have used this service for many years at 3 different properties. This time we were told that their minimum tree service was $650. We only have one tree at the address that required work. $650 was twice what we had paid for this service in the past. I guess we will look for a new service for this address."

"AZ Desert Tree were very professional, responsive, and did an excellent job in trimming three of our trees. They actually were able to accommodate trimming of trees for 3 of my neighbors. I would highly recommend AZ Desert Tree. Customer service is at the highest level with Julie and Ed."

"The contract was written up, with some more work added to it. After a little bump in the start, everything got done and the guys did a super job of taking down the trees and other shrubs and grinding the stumps. They also did a fantastic job of cleaning up after themselves. My husband and I are happy with the services and would use them again. Probably will later on."

"I was very pleased with the service provided by Scott and Eric's crew. They were on time for the appointment and very efficient in their execution of the removal of my huge Sisso tree. They did a great job of cleanup after the work was done as well. The price was great and they were able to start the job 2 days after they quoted. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a tree removal."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on tree height, trunk diameter, removal complexity, and required equipment.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.

Stay inside or well away until the storm passes. Don’t go outside to inspect the tree until the weather clears, especially if the tree is on a hill or isolated in a field. Lightning often strikes the same easily-accessed places multiple times, and you could be a new target. If a lightning strike causes a noticeable fire, alert emergency services. When the storm is over, take a closer look to gauge the damage done.

Generally, homeowners do not need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property, but there are several exceptions where a permit may be required. You might need a permit if the tree is particularly large, old, or a protected species, such as a heritage tree. Trees located near public property or power lines can also be subject to special rules. Additionally, many local governments and homeowners associations (HOAs) have regulations controlling which trees can be removed to manage an area's appearance or prevent the spread of invasive species. To avoid hefty fines, it is crucial to check with your local government and HOA to determine if a permit is needed before you begin.

There are a few instances in which removing a tree is the best option. You might do this if the tree looks to be a major danger—potentially falling onto your home, your car, or other parts of your property—or it’s diseased beyond repair. A tree that is growing too close to your house might need to be removed to prevent mold growth.
