"We have used this service for many years at 3 different properties. This time we were told that their minimum tree service was $650. We only have one tree at the address that required work. $650 was twice what we had paid for this service in the past. I guess we will look for a new service for this address."

"Great. This was the second time I have used them for tree service and happy with the results. Crew leader, Melvin, was a good communicator and checked with me through-out to make sure I was good with how it was going. Ben, the arborist, who came to the house initially, was patient, informative, and it was obvious he cares about the customer. I had three companies out for estimates and evaluation. All three proposals were roughly the same cost, but I was most impressed with Design Tree Maintenance. 12/2019"

"Design Tree Maintenance was so helpful and responsive to my concerns and needs. Half of my Palo Verde tree suddenly fell across my front yard. "I was very pleased with the service provided by Scott and Eric's crew. They were on time for the appointment and very efficient in their execution of the removal of my huge Sisso tree. They did a great job of cleanup after the work was done as well. The price was great and they were able to start the job 2 days after they quoted. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a tree removal."

"Chip's tree service was the greatest. They took down an over 50 foot, 40 year old pine tree in one hours time. Friendly courteous crew. They grind everything up in a chipper. Left the property clean. I highly reccomend."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can prune a palm tree with a chainsaw, but a chainsaw is overkill for a job like this. You risk damaging the tree if you make a bad cut. More commonly, you’ll need pruning shears or a serrated knife to trim a palm tree, or you can use a specialized pruning saw instead of a chainsaw.

Generally, you do not have the right to take fruit from a neighbor's tree, even if the branches overhang your property. The fruit is considered the property of the tree's owner. While you may have the right to trim branches that cross into your yard, the fruit on them typically still belongs to your neighbor. However, laws can vary by state and municipality. In some areas, branches that extend into your yard or trees that straddle a property line may entitle you to some of the fruit. The best course of action is to speak with your neighbor, as they may be happy to share. If a conversation is not possible, check your local regulations before picking any fruit.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

While it’s best to have access to large, healthy, strong trees in a safe position, treehouse living is still possible without them. Contractors can fit tree posts to build the structure onto or use posts as additional support alongside the trees themselves. If you’re in doubt about the suitability of the trees on your land, consult with a local treehouse builder before you start the project.
