"This wasn’t my first phone call. My first phone call I was greeted by a nice and professional receptionist who made an appointment to get a free estimate. When Ivan called, the first question he asked me was what year my house was built when I explained I wanted old popcorn ceiling removed. I was very impressed since I had read homes built in the 80s were needing to be tested for asbestos prior to popcorn removal and we had that done already. Thankfully our home was asbestos free. The knowledge shown from the first sentence and I was sold! They were on time and finished the same day as we needed. The job was labor intensive and my appreciation and thanks to the two employees who worked hard and did an absolutely amazing job. I’m sorry I did not take any before and after photos. If you’re moving wires, installing new wires, or installing new fixtures in the space you’re insulating, then you will need to hire a licensed electrician to do that portion of the job for you. However, if you just intend on replacing old insulation or adding new insulation over existing insulation, then you don’t need to hire one. Reflective and high R-value batt or roll insulation are often considered energy-efficient, offering significant thermal resistance benefits.

When temperatures are too cold, it can keep ice from melting, and products like ice melt and rock salt are ineffective. Water turns to ice in temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice melts on its own when temperatures reach above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Ice melt loses effectiveness in temperatures below -25 degrees Fahrenheit, and rock salt works in temperatures 5 degrees Fahrenheit and warmer.

Radiant barriers and insulation serve different purposes, so one is not inherently better than the other. Radiant barriers reflect radiant heat, helping keep spaces cool, especially in hot climates, while insulation slows heat transfer through conduction. For optimal energy efficiency, it’s best to use both together. 

Radiant barriers can enhance the performance of insulation by preventing heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. The choice between them depends on specific climate conditions and the building’s design requirements.

Blown-in insulation works, but only for unfinished attics. Also, it isn’t the longest-lasting nor the most effective option. For better options, look into spray foam insulation or natural fiber batts. They typically have a longer lifespan, better heat resistance, and stronger sound-proof abilities. Spray foam insulation costs about $1.25 to $1.50 per square foot, but can go up to more than $4 per square foot. Fiber batt pricing varies depending on the material.
