"We have Frontpoint at two houses. We had been looking for ways to cut our monthly expenses (Frontpoint is approx. $100 per month total), so I called them to find out what I could do. They informed me that I was under contract for another year, and that I cannot get out of the contract without an early termination fee that is equal to the cost of the service. I'm a little disappointed, because the upfront cost of the system was very expensive ($1,000+) for each house, so it seems odd that I would get sucked into this contract. Nevertheless, I forgot that I signed up for this with them. My calendar is marked for the day that my service ends, and I will be switching to a company that charges about half of what they do. They have OK customer service and are very responsive, but the wireless system had some issues with reception in my house due to a fireplace, and then they didn't want to work with me to get that resolved. They're OK, but I can't really recommend them."

"The project began in mid April of this year (2012) and the sunroom floor, fireplace mantel, and two bathrooms are now complete, making the project from start to this point approximately 3 weeks.  We are so pleased with the outcome, and the process, and with Mr Edinger's work in particular, that we have expanded the project to include the 2 remaining bathrooms and one bedroom.  Twice my husband wanted a couple of minor things changed, and Mr. Edinger was quick and efficient to comply and bring the project to a happy conclusion!  We give Mr. Edinger and Paul Tile Co our highest recommendation.  Efficient, trustworthy, gifted artistically.  Wonderful experience and only wish that we could include pictures to show just how great this job was!"

"Huntigdon Roofing is an exceptional company. I had the utmost trust in them. I had a problem with water coming through the chimney and when I called them they came out right away. He gave me his honest opinion and what it would cost because it was not an issue with the roof. He stated that he could fix it but I could get it done a lot cheaper with a company that specializes in chimney repair. He gave me the name for another company that he recommended with the work that I needed. I could not have been more pleased with them. They are so honest, dependable and down to earth. I would highly recommend them to others as well. Huntingdon Roofing put a new roof on my home several years ago and I was extremely happy with their work from start to finish. The main thing that impresses me with Huntingdon Roofing is that they are punctual, professional and trustworthy."

"Wiped down the baseboards.
Dusted EVERYTHING!
Damp mopped my wood floors (with wood floor cleaner) and the tile floors downstairs.
Cleaned the bathrooms.
Cleaned the glass top of my dining room table.
I even got Landon to clean the windows in my living room (which hadn't happened since I had the house redone in 2013!)"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

If you’re looking for a cost-effective alternative to a traditional chimney, consider having a dummy chimney installed. Dummy chimneys can either be aesthetic-only or fully functional and can be installed on both new and older homes. Whether installed to match your neighborhood’s aesthetic or to vent your chimney, dummy chimneys are made out of a Glass-Reinforced Plastic (GRP) core, then covered with brick or stone slips to look like a traditional chimney.

There are several maintenance tips you should take to ensure your pellet stove's safety and proper maintenance. You should vacuum the ash pan every week to prevent overflowing and clean the stove and surrounding vents every three to four months. It’s also important to get a professional inspection every year and install a carbon monoxide detector close to your stove. Be sure to dispose of hot ashes in a closed metal container; store it outside, away from the house. Only use the pellets recommended by your stove's manufacturer, and follow any cleaning and maintenance instructions.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.

Your state, city, or even homeowners insurance company may have requirements on how far the outdoor wood furnace should be from the house, so be sure to abide by those regulations. In general, you should install an outdoor wood furnace or boiler as few as 30 feet or as much as 500 feet from the house or any other building.
