"They were always on time, courteous, and delivered outstanding workmanship. Thoroughly cleaned up after completion. Would highly recommend. Completely removed and replaced faulty brick work (cracks in mortar causing water leaks) above garage."

"We could not get our gas log fireplace to stay on. Germantown Fireplace came when they said they would and quickly assessed the problem...(it was just dirty) and said that's usually what causes our problem. He moved very fast which was good, but was not terribly friendly and was eager to move on to the next call. We appreciated the quick response and reasonable price. Interactive manner could have been better on the part of the serviceman."

"The owner and staff of Paul's Tile were great to work with. They responded to our phone inquiry quickly, came to our home, measured, made some recommendations and emailed an estimate after getting back the their office the same day. We did get estimates from two additional tile companies: one before and one after Paul's Tile's visit. We collected information and did the numbers before making a decision. We contracted with Paul's Tile for two reasons; first, they were very professional, secondly, they were very helpful in guiding us through this. They brought sample tiles. After deciding to go with Paul's Tile and noticing that my wife was interested styles of designs, they suggested my wife to come to their shop to see some additional samples and sent us home with samples. This sealed the deal. The workmen who came to our home were professional, polite and on time. They had to work hard taking up the old tile. The owner also suggested other companies for the work they did not do: the bath mirror and sink counter top and bathtub siding. The owner kept in contact to see that we were please with the progress of the work and he came by several times to check how things were going. The master bath is beautiful. We are glad we chose to contract with Paul's Tile. I do recommend this company."

"Keith Williams is the definition of professionalism. Not only is his work incredible, but he is extremely personable. We replaced a wooden gate and section of fence with a wrought iron gate. Keith discussed all possible options that might work well with our needs. He did not try to up-sell any features; if anything, he mentioned some aspects that might save us money. We ended up choosing a single 10-foot gate with small sections on either side. The project took 3 days, but the first day was mostly setting the posts and allowing the concrete to set. Keith and his assistant were always punctual. I highly recommend him for your wrought iron fence and gate needs."

"When I first called I spoke with Angela who answered my initial questions. Mr. O'Neill came to our home and walked us through our options and the whole process. We agreed on a date for the work to occur. Noah, the foreman, and his crew showed up on time and got right to work. At the end of the day I had a brand new roof and my property was all cleaned up."

"We have not used our fireplace for 2 years because we believed we were going to have to have some expensive reconstruction done so that the chimney would draw the smoke out correctly. I saw a deal on Angie's List from Healthy Home Services USA for a chimney sweep and inspection and decided to try them out and see if they could also correct my chimney problem. They came, cleaned the chimney, diagnosed the problem, showed us how to have a fire in on fireplace so that the smoke would draw correctly. They were on time, quick, and efficient. We have already hired Healthy Home Services USA to do more work for us!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A hot fire alone will not remove significant creosote buildup and can be dangerous, as it risks causing a chimney fire. While the warmth from a fire can help loosen stuck tar, making treatments like creosote logs more effective, it is not a substitute for proper cleaning. For existing creosote, the safest and most effective method is to have your chimney professionally cleaned by a chimney sweep.

The cost to replace a chimney damper ranges from $160 to $520, depending on the type of damper and the complexity of the installation. If you're looking to repair an existing damper, expect to pay around $100 and $225, depending on the extent of the damage and your location. Hiring a professional ensures proper installation or repair, which can help maintain energy efficiency and prevent drafts, making it a worthwhile investment for long-term savings.

Homeowners insurance may cover chimney leaks, repairs, or replacement, but coverage depends on the cause of the damage. If the chimney is damaged by a sudden, covered peril like a lightning strike, storm, hail, fallen tree, or an unexpected fire, your policy is likely to cover the costs. However, insurance generally does not cover damage resulting from normal wear and tear, old age, or a lack of proper maintenance, such as failing to perform regular cleanings and inspections. If a fire or other damage is caused by a known issue you didn't address, the claim may be denied. Additionally, some policies may have specific exclusions for events like high winds or earthquakes.

No, you should never leave a fireplace burning overnight or unattended during the day. While fireplaces are made to contain fires, fires can and do spread from fireplaces, so it’s crucial that you’re there to monitor them and put them out if needed. If you’re worried about putting out a fire before bed, stop feeding it fuel long before bedtime and actively put out the fire using your poker, a shovel, and some baking soda.

The cost difference between a gas fireplace and a wood-burning fireplace depends on the type of wood-burning fireplace installed. The cost to install a gas fireplace tends to be cheaper than the cost to install a brick wood-burning fireplace. Installing a gas fireplace costs about $3,600 on average, whereas the cost to build a masonry wood-burning fireplace can go up to $30,000. The cost to install a wood-burning fireplace insert or stove can cost from $700 to $6,500, about the same as a gas fireplace on average.
