Classic Gardens & Landscape, Inc. was founded in January of 1990. Previously in the same location was another landscape/garden center that Mike had worked with for five years. When that business left they took everything with them. Mike and Ann started over from scratch. The name Classic was chosen to signify the quality type of garden center that Mike & Ann had envisioned. But a name alone does not a garden center make. Questions were asked, “What is most important to customers that shop at garden centers?”. Our answers such as excellent quality and a huge selection of hard to find plants were obvious. But the most important asset of a quality garden center is excellent Service and very knowledgeable staff.

"Premium cost, failed to meet expectations When visiting my home to assess what I needed, several details regarding problems in my landscaping were discussed, that I assumed were understood and included in the bid they then provided. After the work was done this week, while I was at work and not here to monitor, I came home to find that these details were missed. When following up with them, all they would stand behind was what was specifically noted on the bid, not the expectations I walked away with. These expectations factored into my decision to choose them over other bids. This bid was the highest one I obtained, and I chose it because I knew I wouldn’t be here to monitor the work was done to my satisfaction. I guess you don’t always get what you pay for. Tips for whoever chooses to do business with these folks – 1) Make sure every expectation is explicitly noted on the bid you sign for the work; 2) Be home when the work is being done to ensure all the expectations are being met, and the work isn’t rushed; and 3) Don’t put too much faith in a landscape company that is mostly known for their weekly talk-radio landscaping show."

They arrived on the scheduled date; the tank was cleaned; the company was paid in cash. Now I have this issue of the raw sewage collecting on top of the tank again this have never been a issue pre-service with Soggy Bottom my deceased father had the tank cleaned when I moved in the house 26 plus year ago, and I've never had an issue until now. Maybe I chose the wrong Company to do business with."

"We used Don’s in Vestavia to order tile for a bathroom project because years ago I used Don’s in Trussville to do my tile floors in my kitchen and bathrooms and had such a wonderful experience working with them. The experience with the Vestavia store has completely soured us on Don’s and we won’t be using them again for future projects we have for our house. As our project progressed, it became obvious the employee we were working with at Don’s, Steven Kitchens, did not know how to order tile or supplies based on measurements provided by our contractor. He ordered no bullnose tile and when our contractor called to find out where it was, he stated “It was supposed to be on your order”. So we had to pay expedited shipping to get the tile in since the job was in progress. We also ordered a Schluter pan system from them, which my husband found out after doing a quick Google search, requires UNMODIFIED thinset. Steven ordered us MODIFIED thinset, something we could not use for the shower pan system we bought from them. When we asked the manager at the store for a refund on the thinset that was mistakenly ordered by them, he refused. His reasoning was that he offered our contractor to exchange the thinset and they decided to purchase from another store. The reason they chose to do that is because Don’s supply store is located approximately 45 minutes from our house and there is both a Lowe’s and Home Depot within 5 minutes of our house. Our contractors had already been running back and forth to their store several time for other minor ordering issues, including Steven not ordering the appropriate amount of backer board. So I would prefer them go to a closer store for supplies when we were having to pay for their time. At the end of the project we had so much overage for subway tile and an 8x8 mosaic tile that was over $3.60 a tile. Steven had ordered us 3 boxes of subway tile, and we had 1 and a half boxes of untouched tile left over. The expensive mosaic tile was even more grossly misordered in my opinion, since it was purchased by the tile. We enlarged the section where we used this tile AFTER getting in the tile, going from 55 pieces to 66 pieces. We were left with 21 additional pieces of tile! If using the original plan that was measured and provided to Steven, we would have had an overage of 32 pieces of tile. At $3.60 a piece, this was a significant cost. We’ve tried repeatedly to work with Raj, the store manager, to return the incorrectly ordered thinset and the exorbitant overage of tile, but he only wants to blame our contractor for his employee’s mistake and will take no ownership of the situation. Our contractor, by the way, has an A+ business rating with the Better Business Bureau and top scores on HomeAdvisor and many other business rating sites. Steven and Raj at Don’s in Vestavia do not care about the customer, they only care about making a sale. And once your card has been charged, they have no interest in ensuring you are happy with the product or their service. We will never work with this Don’s again and we will advise all our friends and family to steer clear of this business."

Stone and Gravel questions, answered by experts

The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.

No, you don’t need to soak the brick before cutting it by hand. In fact, cutting a wet brick can make it harder to see your score lines and may cause the chisel to slip. Soaking is sometimes used with power tools to reduce dust, but for hand-cutting, it’s best to work with dry bricks for better control and visibility.

Yes, brick walls often add value to a home. For starters, many people love the look of brick walls, so they can enhance your home's aesthetic appeal and add warmth to your property, especially when it aligns with the rest of your neighborhood's look. They also provide privacy and security, which can further increase the resale value of your home.

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

Yes, it’s usually possible to repair damaged brick mailboxes. If the masonry is damaged, the brick can be cut out and replaced, or the mortar joints can be cut out and retucked. However, the new mortar will likely be different in color from the original mortar joints. In most cases, if the mailbox itself is damaged, it’s possible to cut it out and replace it. Consult a masonry contractor to determine whether it’s worth repairing your brick mailbox based on its value and amount of damage.
