We used Don’s in Vestavia to order tile for a bathroom project because years ago I used Don’s in Trussville to do my tile floors in my kitchen and bathrooms and had such a wonderful experience working with them. The experience with the Vestavia store has completely soured us on Don’s and we won’t be using them again for future projects we have for our house. As our project progressed, it became obvious the employee we were working with at Don’s, Steven Kitchens, did not know how to order tile or supplies based on measurements provided by our contractor. He ordered no bullnose tile and when our contractor called to find out where it was, he stated “It was supposed to be on your order”. So we had to pay expedited shipping to get the tile in since the job was in progress. We also ordered a Schluter pan system from them, which my husband found out after doing a quick Google search, requires UNMODIFIED thinset. Steven ordered us MODIFIED thinset, something we could not use for the shower pan system we bought from them. When we asked the manager at the store for a refund on the thinset that was mistakenly ordered by them, he refused. His reasoning was that he offered our contractor to exchange the thinset and they decided to purchase from another store. The reason they chose to do that is because Don’s supply store is located approximately 45 minutes from our house and there is both a Lowe’s and Home Depot within 5 minutes of our house. Our contractors had already been running back and forth to their store several time for other minor ordering issues, including Steven not ordering the appropriate amount of backer board. So I would prefer them go to a closer store for supplies when we were having to pay for their time. At the end of the project we had so much overage for subway tile and an 8x8 mosaic tile that was over $3.60 a tile. Steven had ordered us 3 boxes of subway tile, and we had 1 and a half boxes of untouched tile left over. The expensive mosaic tile was even more grossly misordered in my opinion, since it was purchased by the tile. We enlarged the section where we used this tile AFTER getting in the tile, going from 55 pieces to 66 pieces. We were left with 21 additional pieces of tile! If using the original plan that was measured and provided to Steven, we would have had an overage of 32 pieces of tile. At $3.60 a piece, this was a significant cost. We’ve tried repeatedly to work with Raj, the store manager, to return the incorrectly ordered thinset and the exorbitant overage of tile, but he only wants to blame our contractor for his employee’s mistake and will take no ownership of the situation. Our contractor, by the way, has an A+ business rating with the Better Business Bureau and top scores on HomeAdvisor and many other business rating sites. Steven and Raj at Don’s in Vestavia do not care about the customer, they only care about making a sale. And once your card has been charged, they have no interest in ensuring you are happy with the product or their service. We will never work with this Don’s again and we will advise all our friends and family to steer clear of this business.

They did a good and quick job in removing the old flooring and installing the new, that included moving the appliances out of the way and putting them back.

My experience with Don's Carpet One - Vestavia was absolutely amazing! Keith is very knowledgeable and understood my goals. I went in with a budget to accomplish floors, bathroom vanities and new countertops for both new vanities and the kitchen. Keith fit everything into that budget and my house looks amazing! I would recommend Don's Carpet One to everyone and certainly ask for Keith when you contact them. First Class customer service.

He was great. He quickly came and was very punctual. It took him a little bit longer and he charged a little bit more but not much, but I really liked him. Overall, it was great. My interaction with the provider was great. It turned out very well.

It actually went very well. They did a good job in selling some wooden floors. The staff was friendly. They were very professional. They came out and made a personal visit. They made sure we were happy with the job. Had some work that was a little bit out of the ordinary and they did a beautiful job so I can't complain. It was a good match on the rest of the hardwood floors. They were neat, they didn't leave a mess. I don't have any complaints at all about them. It was a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend them.

They're great and I'm very satisfied. We're looking at them to do something in a house that we're buying. We were very pleased with the whole process. They came out and did the measuring, their guys did the installation and were very accommodating and professional. I had no complaints. We're going to use them again. They have several showrooms around town. They were competitively priced.

Went well.  2 Technicians came to install.  Had one minor adjustment to a repair that I did to ensure level floor.  Work took approximately 5 hours, but there were several cuts and odd shapes to overcome. Very impressed with the ability to get that large roll moved around and into the various areas (kitchen in general, laundry room, pantry, and hall way the led to a bath and bedroom.  We were very pleased.

Went to their website, scheduled them to contact me. They did. Then made an appointment for someone to come out.
He was on time and very pleasant. Answered all of our questions. Then we made an appointment to go pick out which floor we wanted at their store. And scheduled the installation.
2 guys came out the day of installation. It took them a day and a half to install.
When they were done I came downstairs to look at it and they were repairing my coffee table that had been broken for about a month. And I didn't even ask them to fix it. I was THRILLED!!! They did a wonderful job on my floor and repaired my coffee table that I was going to have to replace.
My floors look great and my coffee table is like new!
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!

Setup:  We moved into our house in early February. The previous owner had installed Mexican tile with a carpet inlay on the floor and multicolored 4x4 porcelain tile around the fireplace. It was nice I guess, but just not our taste (we did leave the Mexican tile in the kitchen). We wanted hardwood flooring and a more natural looking tile around the fireplace. We started at Don's and then went to a few more flooring/tile places in the area and brought home many samples. Don's had the best selection, especially regarding the tile. They had a special buy on the hardwood, which was fortunate, because it was our favorite out of everything we brought home. The estimate Don's gave us seemed to be pretty high, but when we started drilling down the numbers and comparing them to other estimates, they were actually within a few hundred dollars on the hardwood. No one else would really give us an estimate on the tile work. Don's seemed to want the business more than any of the other places - they came out to the house the same day to measure and look at everything.

Install:  The tile installers came first. They removed the tile from around the fireplace and laid out the new tile all within an hour. It was a 2-man crew. By lunch they were done. The only problem here is that Don's did not order enough tile to finish the project, and since it was special order, we had to wait another week for it to be completed. The hardwood install came a few days after the tiler's first trip. There were 3 of them. They were done within 4 hours of knocking on the door. The tilers came back a few days later to finish. They were done within 2 hours or so.

Summary:  We saved ~$700 by removing the old flooring. We also used an Angie's List coupon, which save a couple hundred more. I have no complaints with the quality of work or any of the installers. The salesperson kept us in the loop with scheduling, etc., though it would have been better if they ordered the right amount of material the first time. The floor looks great. The fireplace looks really good. The tile around the fireplace turned out a little darker than the sample once it was grouted, but there is really nothing that can be done about that since it is a natural stone. Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome.

The interior designer was excellent. The measurement man did not call back when he said he would and it was because of this that they lost the job with me. I would not recommend this company to anyone else.
Response from Don's Carpet One Floor & Home
"Member, I want to first thank you for shopping at Don’s Carpet One. I wanted to thank you for letting us know what happened to you through this Angie’s List report. Melinda Hedrick at our Greystone location is a wonderful interior designer and flooring expert and this incident should have no reflection on her. She has been with Don’s for 19 years and does a wonderful job for the company. Unfortunately, we lost your business because our cabinet department had just kicked off and was not adequately staffed for the amount of growth we experienced in a very short time. We are thankful for the business, but are remised that you had to experience some of our growing pains. We have added staff to our cabinet division to keep up with the pace. We are committed to offering top notch service in cabinets as we have done in flooring for the past 38 years. I hope that your kitchen project turned out beautifully and I hope that you can accept our apology for any inconvenience."

The sales person who brought samples to our home ALSO measures all her jobs, which anyone who has shopped for carpet knows is atypical. As it turns out, it is very reassuring, does away with confusion, enhances communication. I HIGHLY recommend Davonna at the Greystone Don's Carpet. Also, she helped me decide on the color and grade by coming to the house three times! Installers were EXCELLENT. I challenge anyone to find the seam in the living room. Moved all furniture out of rooms and replaced exactly as we directed them when they were done. (If you want them to vacuum before replacing your furniture specify that in your contract.) Don's has a very helpful web site on which you can not only apply for 12-months-same-as-cash financing, you can also print a $100 coupon! Outstanding experience.

The sample of the carpet was very close to our original carpet, which was pleasing. They did a great job and I am very happy with them. They were on time and they did really wonderful. The installer was also very great. I paid them on my credit card, half at each time. It was all worth it.

I was very pleased with Dons Carpet One. My carpets look great, and the color is exactly what I had picked from the beginning. I am impressed that nothing is flipping up and there are no layers that are pulling up either. I must say, that this company definitely caught my eye after seeing a previous home that they had worked on. I was impressed then, and I am still impressed after I have used them my self.

The first time I used this company was to lay a stone floor in my kitchen, and they did a great job on it, so I called them back to do the oak flooring. The job was done perfectly and without any problems with anything. They cleaned up after themselves and had very good service. They removed all of the carpet before they put the new floor in.

Dons Carpet One removed our old carpeting and put in new hardwood floor. It turned out great. I mean their work was just perfect. I loved the way the room looked after they had it finished. The work crew was fantastic and did grade A work all the way around.
