The depth of a septic tank’s drain lines is between 18 and 36 inches underground. There’s also a significant cost difference, with mound systems typically costing far more than standard septic systems.

Since vinegar is a weak acid with a pH of two to three, it’s generally safe for septic systems. It won’t eat away at the good bacteria in your septic tank and can help break down the sludge, which is its bottom layer. However, like with everything in life, moderation is key.

There are a few things that can make your drain field fail. These include driving or parking vehicles or heavy machinery on the field, excess sodium in the soil, or having a high water table. You can prevent failure by ensuring your installer checks that your chosen location is suitable for a drain field and properly maintaining your system with the help of a professional.
