Small jobs welcome

"I am a repeat customer, first they replaced all may windows and sliding glass doors with all triple pane - AWESOME job! They just fixed my upstairs 2nd floor exterior deck supports - main boards that went into house under outer wood panels had started to dry rot - very dangerous, replaced deck supports, outer panel, painted everything to match exterior paint and I'm a very happy camper! Just like a plumber, mechanic or even a dentist, a great contractor you can depend on is a treasure! Won't go wrong with 84th Street Construction!"

"I’ve had this company do a huge home remodel, a condo remodel, hot tub install, mother-in-law dwelling remodel and a number of other projects. My absolute “go to” for anything. Never found a problem that couldn’t be solved. I’ve recommended them to friends who all have done remodels, small jobs and even a rebuild after a fire. Ask them for my reference and call me directly if you want. I can’t say enough good about Butch and his folks. Superb!!"

"We highly recommend GP Construction. Their customer service and work ethic is outstanding. All the guys who did work on our kitchen remodel were courteous, professional, knowledgeable and skilled. They cleaned everything up really well at the end of each day and were very considerate of our having to live among the construction. Marty was our project manager. He works hard to make sure everything is done to his high standards, and he is very patient with new ideas and changes. He is amazing! We will be using them for all future projects."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Building a bar in the basement will likely add value to your home, although it’s unlikely that you’ll see a significant return on investment (ROI) unless you plan on using the space for you and your guests. If you think you’ll use the area frequently, though, it’s probably worth the investment, and you should see a bump in value if or when you sell your property.

Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.

The cost of a walkout basement can be anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000.

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.

The time it takes to finish or remodel a basement can vary significantly, ranging from a few weeks to several months or even up to a year. On average, the construction phase can take four to eight weeks, but the total project time can extend to three or four months when including planning and permits. The timeline depends on several factors, including the basement's size, design complexity, the scope of the work, and your contractor's availability. A more detailed breakdown for an average-sized basement might include: framing (3-5 days), electrical and rough-in plumbing (3-5 days), drywall installation (5 days), flooring (2-3 days), and final touches like painting and trim (about a week). If preliminary work like installing a waterproofing system or addressing structural issues is needed, the timeline could extend to six to twelve months. Factors like difficult access, material transport, and ventilation needs can also add to the project's duration.

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!
