"I’ve had this company do a huge home remodel, a condo remodel, hot tub install, mother-in-law dwelling remodel and a number of other projects. My absolute “go to” for anything. Never found a problem that couldn’t be solved. I’ve recommended them to friends who all have done remodels, small jobs and even a rebuild after a fire. Ask them for my reference and call me directly if you want. I can’t say enough good about Butch and his folks. Superb!!"

"Jim, Steve, Clint and the rest of their crew were great. They would quickly respond to changes or fixes required to get the job done right. Finished product is everything I expected. After working with some flaky contractors in the past, Crestone was a refreshing group to do business with.

Small jobs welcome

"My first project with High Level Construction and Jayme Phillips was for an outside garage door replacement. During the door replacement job, we discussed my desire to remodel my home which was built in the early 70's. I expressed my desire to have my home remodeled but did not want the added stress of choosing any materials or coming up with the basic design because I do not visualize well. I knew it would be very stressful and overwhelming for me to be involved in the planning phase of this project. Jayme was very excited to take on the task and loved having control over the entire project. Jayme made all of the design decisions including picking out all of the materials used in the remodel which was very acceptable to me. They only decision that I made for the entire scope of the work was to pick out the wall color. The quality of the work was exceptional and second to none. Jayme's attention to detail was impeccable. I loved everything he chose for my home and the end project was a home I will be proud of and he was always careful to keep the work within my budget. I am enjoying my new home and I am so glad that Home Advisor chose High Level Construction and made our meeting possible. I highly recommend Jayme Phillips and High Level Construction to anyone wanting home improvement work done at a reasonable price and great quality of work. Recommended? Yes"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Living in a finished basement is acceptable, but only if the space has the proper points of egress and includes smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure the safety of the occupants. A good way to ensure your finished basement is suitable for use as living space is to get the basement finishing project properly permitted.

Kitchens and bathrooms are typically the most expensive rooms to renovate. The high cost is due to several factors, including expensive appliances like ranges, hoods, and refrigerators, as well as costly fixtures. The 'bones' of the room, such as electrical and plumbing, are also expensive to move or replace. Because of the vast amount of prep work, finishing, and specialized labor involved in a relatively small footprint, these projects can cost double or more than a living space remodel. Even when trying to renovate on a budget, kitchens and bathrooms will likely carry a hefty price tag.

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Unless you have extensive experience in construction work, remodeling a basement is best left to a professional. There are several tasks associated with this project that require exact precision, including:

  • Replacing insulation

  • Replacing carpet or other flooring

  • Adding heating and cooling

  • Adjusting or adding walls and doors

  • Altering or adding plumbing elements

If any of these elements is done incorrectly, it could severely impact the quality of your basement remodel and be dangerous. Changing a basement often comes with code safety requirements, like egress windows and proper ventilation. Therefore, leaving it up to a professional is often the best decision.

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.
