"Stacy and Joe did an outstanding job of remodeling our bathrooms including two beautifully tiled floors. They were punctual, professional at all times, and clearly expert at what they do. Stacy also painted a bedroom that included California closet shelving. He provided us with a detailed quote at the beginning of the project, which was both reasonable and accurate. I would highly recommend Chugiak Restoration & Custom Tile for any type of remodeling especially tile work."

"I wholeheartedly recommend Callaway Construction! From the first bid appointment to the final touchup, Jason and his team were detailed, excellent (and timely) communicators, respectful of our home, and followed through on every aspect of our project. There are people who simply want to get things done and then there are people who insist on getting things done right - Jason and the Callaway team get things done right. They take pride in their work and performed multiple "above and beyond" acts of service during our project. I would rate them 6/5 if that was an option."

Small jobs welcome

"I had an old kitchen that had ceramic tile countertops and backsplash the grout was cracking and some of the ceramic tiles were falling off. didnâ t want to spend a lot of money because I know removing the ceramic tiles would have cost a lot. so what they did was installed vinyl tiles over top of the ceramic tiles to make a smooth surface. then they added the peel and stick backsplash and countertops it really looks very very nice. this company is very professional and fair as far as cost. Company also was very neat and clean up was amazing a job well done I highly recommend Daybor The owner of Rico Construction and his crew thank you thank you thank you keep on doing what you are doing because itâ s very good work."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

You have creative freedom when it comes to your tile trim. If, however, you are considering skipping tile trim, please think twice about that. It is good practice to install tile trim, whether on walls or flooring. Think, too, about the aesthetic you are going for and choose a trim type and color that will help enhance the space.

You can let the tile sit without grout. Don’t panic if there’s a delay between installing the tiles and grouting. A substantial stoppage isn't a problem, provided you keep the tile surface clear of dust and debris. Also, avoid walking over less stable ungrouted floor tiles as they are more prone to premature cracking and shifting.
