Recent Fence Installation Contractor Reviews in Anchorage

  • Spartan Contracting
Our journey with Spartan Contracting began in the early summer of 2019. We had just fired another contractor in the middle of a bathroom remodel which had turned into an unqualified disaster. The project was putting a second bathroom in the basement of our 65 year old house, and remodeling the existing upstairs bathroom. The contractor we had hired on the basis of a friend's recommendation had just stopped showing up with the job half done. As we should have done to begin with, we interviewed three contractors and went with Spartan. I wish we had found them first! Levi (owner) and Mark (foreman) went over the existing and projected work in detail, gave us a thorough estimate, and an honest assessment of what needed to be done. Mistakes had been made by the previous contractor and subcontractors, which had to be rectified. As well, the previous contractor had not obtained the appropriate permits for the extensive job, which could have become a serious issue when it came to selling the house in future. Everything that needed to be done was explained in detail at each step. Spartan was definitely challenged by the fact that the house is 65 years old. As work progressed, not unexpectedly, issues turned up which had to be addressed to bring electricity and plumbing up to code, to reinforce aged infrastructure, to correct haphazardly done "upgrades" by the previous homeowners(s), as well as the mistakes made by the previous contractor. At each step of the way, they explained what needed to be done and why. We wanted everything to be done correctly, to code, and in a quality fashion. This is what we got. The downstairs bathroom had been a particular challenge due to very old plumbing, and dealing with a lift station to the septic system. Each challenge was met and solved. Excellent plumbing and electrical subcontractors were brought in. Both bathrooms turned out beautifully. We were so pleased that we decided to go ahead with a kitchen remodel, as well as adding an arctic entryway and replacing poorly built deck and fence. Levi and Mark worked with us to design a kitchen that would fit into a somewhat challenging space. Again, as the project proceeded, necessary improvements and upgrades had to be made. Work proceeded through the winter with its cold weather challenges. And then..... the pandemic. Spartan was hampered by supply chain standstill for months, and the general systemic issues we all death with starting March 2000. They did what they could, when they could, but the project stretched far longer than any of us anticipated. Our project finally finished this summer. The results are beautiful. We went from having one old and kind of disgusting bathroom, and a dysfunctional kitchen, to two beautiful bathrooms, a kitchen we love to cook in, and a much appreciated arctic entry. I can't say enough about Spartan's quality work, professionalism, attention to detail, and working by the book as far as codes, inspections, and permits. As well, Levi and Mark had to accomodate the choices and demands of two opinionated women (me and my daughter) on what we wanted. Spartan went above and beyond in so many ways, often working 7 days a week, and did extra things like bringing space heaters over when our furnace died, and helping keep our chickens warm in winter. There are many more projects we could embark on for our old house, and we will certainly have Spartan move forward when we are ready. After working on our old house for three years, I like to think they have a bit of affection for it! Thanks to Levi, Mark, Wendy, and all their excellent assistants and subcontractors

  • Spartan Contracting
They came and drilled the holes on the first day of the huge snowstorm we had a few weeks ago and were able to finish with snow on the ground. The guys were able to build a beautiful fence when most companies were telling me they couldn’t do it until spring. I appreciate Levi and his workers for the job they’ve done

  • Renfro Renovators
I absolutely loved having them work for me in Juneau, Alaska. Ian did several jobs for me, not only personally, but for clients as well. We miss him terribly. Great work ethic. Responsible. Trustworthy. Sticks to his quote. I'd trust him with the keys to my house and the combo to my safe and the quality of his workmanship is outstanding

  • The Fence Guy
I cannot comment on their fence work. However, My neighbor hired them to put in his fence, and they hit my internet line. No one was told or informed until I discovered it and the internet company ruled it as that. Now, 2 months later I still have no internet, and the IT company and fence company both refuse to take any responsibility. They claim the IT company didn't locate it, IT claims they should have reported it, both expect me or as each says "Someone to pay" for it (also means me since I'm the only person who seems to need it fixed) before it'll get fixed. It isn't even my fence. I am a completely separate innocent individual in all this, and I am the only person negatively effected by this. Not only have I had to cancel my service now, but I am having to switch to the only other internet provider in my area which is going to cost me twice as much a month. So, in short, their fences might be fine, but they may screw over your neighbors and then do not f all to rectify it. So you'll definitely need that fence to hide behind now that your relationships with your neighbors has been hit

  • Jensen Construction
I needed home repair due to the earthquake in November 18. Dave came on two separate occasions; the first time to replace our damage bathroom vanity with a new one, and the second time to repair the fence door. I am very pleased with the work that was done on the house - Dave is a professional in every sense of the term, and I will definitely be having him back for future projects

  • Spartan Contracting
The remodel went perfectly. Levi and his crew handled all of the details, from start to finish, which left me with nothing to worry about. In addition, Levi communicated almost daily with me about the progress of the job and was always available if/when I had questions. I have already recommended Spartan Contracting to friends and family

  • Jensen Construction
Out of several contractors whom I contacted Mr Jensen was the only one who returned my phone call promptly, gave a realistic timeline and a quote. I am so grateful that he doesn't mind taking on small jobs between large, time-consuming contracts. He was very professional, got done quickly and did a superb job on the gate

Fencing FAQ

  1. How much does it cost to install a fence?

Answer: The average cost to install a fence is $2,600. A variety of factors will impact the overall cost of fencing installation, such as the length of the fence, the materials you choose, and local labor costs. Fencing projects using the lowest cost materials and with lower labor costs can cost as little as $1 to $6 per linear foot, while projects using the highest cost materials and with higher labor costs may be as high as $15 to $45.

  2. Do I need a permit to build a fence around a yard?

Answer: Whether you’ll need a permit to build a fence around your yard will depend on your city or county's local codes. Many metropolitan and suburban areas require a permit to install most fencing, but they may not for fences situated behind a house as opposed to in front of it or fences that don’t run within a certain distance of the road. To find out if you’ll need a permit to fence your yard, reach out directly to your local government office.

  3. What is the cheapest fence to install?

Answer: The cheapest fencing to install is chain-link fencing. Chain-link fencing is typically cheaper than other fence types because the materials cost less, and installation is generally quicker and easier than other options. Chain-link fencing is affordable, easy to install, and low maintenance. However, it’s usually considered less secure than other options and doesn’t increase resale value as much as fences made of different materials.

  4. Is a wood or vinyl fence cheaper?

Answer: Wood fences are generally cheaper than the cost of vinyl fences. While the cost of materials for wood and vinyl fences is usually very similar, the labor cost associated with installing a vinyl fence is higher. Wood fencing is also easier to install than vinyl fencing, making it possible to save money by making wood fence installation a DIY project. It’s also possible to DIY install a vinyl fence.

  5. What is the life expectancy of a vinyl fence?

Answer: Vinyl fencing can be expected to last between 10 and 30 years. Vinyl fencing is generally low maintenance, but proper care will ensure it lasts as long as possible. Its long life span and high return on investment make vinyl fencing a popular option for many homeowners.

  6. What type of fence adds to the property value?

Answer: Installing quality fencing, no matter the fence type, will generally add value to your property. In general, fences made of longer-lasting, lower-maintenance, and more attractive materials—like wrought-iron, composite, or vinyl—add more value to a property than fences made of lower-cost or less attractive materials, like chain-link. To ensure your fencing adds as much value to your home as possible, be sure it’s properly permitted, approved by your homeowners association (if you have one), and installed properly.
