"J&H excavating traveled up to Columbus to tackle this 3,000 foot driveway project. J & H provided constant communication throughout 3 different phases of the project, and worked great in conjunction with the other contractors on the job."

The excavation was performed with care to our property, they reseeded the grass afterwards. They permanently marked were each fitting along the run is located, so we know where to check if the line leaks years into the future. Professional, Friendly, high Quality. Rodney Salmons 1 review a month ago Replaced all water lines underneath my house and did a very good job. Cleaned up good the guys was very respectful and was fast at it. Excellent work. 1 Susan Richards 2 reviews This company was amazing. Jarred went above and beyond to find my drainage problems. He and his crew had their work cut out for them with dealing with replacing decades old plumbing and unclogging and cleaning out my sewer line. Required lots of digging and crawling under the house and they didn't hesitate. Took a job that most would have drug out for days and got it done in a day and half. The crew worked nonstop to get the job done. No unnecessary items to jack up the price which shows they take honor and pride in their work. Jarred kept me informed every step of the way. When they left they left everything in great shape. This company is worth the money and I will most definitely use them in the future. Very polite, respectful and hard working. Susan Richards"

".Working with Sun Comfort was great. They did a good job on my bathroom remodel. They were easy to work with and they cleaned up the construction "mess" each day so when I came home from work every thing was straightened up. I had a couple of last minute requests and they were no problem for them. Communication was good and always easy to get in touch with them when I needed to discuss issues or plans. Will use Sun Comfort again for home projects."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

There is no standard depth for burying a septic tank; they are typically buried anywhere from 4 inches to 4 feet underground. The final depth depends on several factors, including the depth of your main sewer line, the height of the bedrock, soil type, local regulations, and the property's landscape. If you plan to grow grass or plants over the tank, a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches is recommended. Deeper tanks can be more difficult to locate, but a septic professional can help find it for you.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

Yes, chipmunk holes may have two or more entrances. Chipmunks can create an entire network of burrows. Having multiple entrances makes it easier for them when trying to escape from a predator, such as a snake, or if an entrance collapses due to flooding. Each entrance leads to the nesting chamber underground, which is where the chipmunk spends the majority of its time sleeping.

Yes, you can excavate in the winter, but it might make the job harder. Frozen ground is harder to dig, and snow or ice can make the work site more hazardous. A contractor may need special equipment and techniques, such as ground-thawing methods, to break through frozen soil. Although winter excavation is possible, it may take longer and be more costly than excavating during warmer months.
