"Brian Cutlip, the owner, responded quickly and came out the next day. He cleared the line but noted that the condensation drain had not been installed properly, as the drain line did not have an adequate downward angle to ensure proper drainage. He drained the line and returned the unit to functional status, and made arrangements to return in about a week to install a condensate pump and float switch. He would not accept payment until after all work was completed. He subsequently returned as promised (with two assistants), wired and installed the pump, and ran a section of PVC drain line down to ground level to properly drain the unit. He also recharged the refrigerant back to the proper level. He fully explained everything he did, and made several recommendations regarding unit maintenance. Brian and his crew were exceptionally professional, clean and courteous."

"Excellent communication, very quick response to my inquiry and he made a point to get here within 24 hours to help. Informative and logical assessment of the system and potential problems. Luckily it was a quick, easy affordable fix and my boiler is up and running again. I plan to hire them for routine maintenance in the fall. Definitely recommend if you have an old boiler no one wants to mess with. Thank you! ."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

No, you should not see water in a sewer cleanout. If you do, it could indicate that you have a block or leak in your main sewer line—which can cause sewage to back up inside your home and potentially flood your yard. Your best bet is to call a local sewer cleaner if you notice any water or sewage around your cleanout.

Some water leak detection devices use apps to make it easier to detect underground water leaks in your home. For example, you can find smart home technology that contains sensors for tracking and detecting water leaks the moment they arise. These sensors pair with an app on your smartphone to alert you of any plumbing leaks fast.

For a fully-foamed hot tub, freezing typically occurs when the temperature drops below 28 degrees Fahrenheit and remains at or below this level continuously for a minimum of 36 hours. If your hot tub and pumps are still operational, however, the water circulates, and this continuous movement helps prevent freezing, even in very cold conditions. This circulation, along with the insulation provided by the foam, helps maintain the water temperature and prevent it from freezing during extended cold periods. Still, if you’re not planning to run it regularly, be sure to winterize the hot tub properly to prevent damage from freezing.

Even though they’re modern-looking, easier to clean, can be hung at any height, and help save space compared to traditional toilets, wall-hung toilets have some downsides. They’re more expensive than standard toilets, sometimes by a few hundred dollars. They’re also difficult to install and may require major plumbing work to reroute the drain if the previous toilet was a floor-mount model.

This tight fit can make repairs more difficult. You’ll also have to consider where you can hang them and weight limit restrictions, so they may not be the best fit for every home.

It can be helpful to open one or two faucets before turning on the water main again. Turning off the main shut-off valve will introduce some air into your pipes. Having at least one faucet open should allow the air to clear as the water refills the pipes. Try to open faucets far from the main shut-off valve and on the highest floor of the house.
