"My estimator was excellent! Initially the crew missed the option of having the cricket installed behind the chimney, but they sent someone out to do it at a later date when the weather warmed up! Easy fix. The crew did an excellent job on the roof and the cleanup. The Owens-Corning Duration architectural shingles look so much better than those old 3-tabs I had. In general, you should consider replacing your roof if more than 30% of it is damaged. This includes several missing shingles, large spots of granule loss, extreme curling or cracking, structural damage to the roof's decking, or multiple areas of leaks. All of these issues could indicate compromised structural integrity that requires roof replacement.

Asphalt shingles, wooden shakes, and slate or clay roofing tiles are often replaceable without having to replace the entire roof. It's possible to replace just a few shingles or tiles without much trouble in the case of wind damage or other minor problems. DIYers can perform the task in some situations. However, professional repair is always the best bet when it comes to roofing.

Asphalt shingles blister when air gets trapped between building materials, either within the layers of the shingle itself or in adhesives on the undersides of the shingles. As the roof heats up in direct sunlight, the trapped gas expands and creates a bubble in the roof. Eventually, the bubble can pop, leaving an exposed area of decking and underlayment.

While you technically can add a roof over shakes or shingles, it’s not a good idea.
