"Excellent company. They did a professional job, very knowledgeable and friendly crew. Josh was great explaining everything and giving us several options of furnaces. No buying pressure and went above and beyond to get us in due to the old furnace dying. Great job guys !!!!!"

"Harker Heating And Cooling is the best HVAC contractor we have ever worked with in 40 years. Their web site proudly says they are an “honest company with Midwestern values.” That is absolutely true. Their representative provided in-depth advice, answered our questions. and returned our messages. Their techs were knowledgeable, professional, careful, and friendly. They were on time, on call, and on budget. The service they provided for us over the years could not be better. So when the time finally came to replace our old furnace and A/C we selected them. Unfortunately, they encountered many unexpected problems installing our new equipment. Many more than they had anticipated for the job. But their representative pledged to address every one of them no matter how hard it was for them or how much of their time it took. And that is exactly what they did. No quibbling and no questions. They got the job done right. If you want an honest family contractor who stands behind what they do, and lives by those Midwestern values, then this is the company to hire. You will be glad you did. "Awesome! We have never felt more comfortable and satisfied hiring a contractor! Brian came out within a day or two to look over the project, and then within another few days had a written quote! This was a huge project, and they handled it like no one else could. We interviewed 3 other companies and hands down, chose Arctic Air. Within a weeks time, they had removed 2- 250 gallon oil tanks, filled with oil mind you, took out the old oil furnace, replaced with a new gas furnace, and installed air conditioning! Not an easy task on a 125 year old home! Will definitely recommend to everyone!"

"Very prefessional and thorough. Left my place clean after the install, and even loaned me some goo-be-gone from their toolbox for a project that I was working on while they were installing my furnace. They reviewed what they did at the end, and gave me a card so that I could call with any issues. Would highly recommend Sears and their contractors."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

The absence of heating or hot water, unusual noises like banging or gurgling, and visible water leakage are key signs. Abnormal boiler pressure, flame irregularities (for gas boilers), or pilot light issues may also signal trouble. Frequent cycling, soot or staining, and unusual odors, particularly gas-like smells, should not be ignored. Modern boilers often display error codes or lockout mode upon detecting issues. Uneven heating across radiators and rising energy bills without increased usage can further point to problems. Prompt attention to these signs is essential to prevent further damage and ensure safety.

Heat pumps are significantly more efficient than boilers, typically providing three to four times the amount of heat for the electricity they consume. While boilers run on fossil fuels, heat pumps use only electricity. This efficiency can lead to long-term savings on operating and maintenance costs. However, heat pumps have a higher upfront installation price compared to boilers. Despite their lower efficiency, boilers remain a popular choice for many homeowners, with 8 million in the United States alone, due to their lower initial cost and less intensive installation process. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your home's infrastructure, your budget, and your personal heating priorities.

Costs depend on issue severity, parts needed, and labor rates.

The most important sign of a boiler problem is something happening unexpectedly, which is why regular boiler maintenance is important. Unexpected problems can include strange smells, new leaks, and unexpected noises that your boiler wasn’t making before. Additionally, if a boiler keeps shutting off or can’t maintain a specific temperature range, it’s time to call in an expert.
