"I had windows install by Empire Home and Remodeling Company. The contractor was very friendly, professional and helpful. They can in and put a runner on my floors to protect it. I didn’t want my floors damage with all of the movement inside my home. I was happy to see they had it available. Once the installation was completed the contractor did a great job cleaning inside and outside my home. My neighbors complimented on how they cleaned the area around my home and how beautiful my windows look now. I’m a very satisfy customer."

"The price was exactly as quoted. Ben made sure to check before starting to try and identify any potential extra problems, he found none. They called to verify the date they were coming, and came that day. The process took a tad longer than the optimal time, but that was due to the unusually cold and snowy weather. Ben and his father-in-law worked hard and steadily, and were friendly and courteous, covering floors and other areas to keep them clean."

"First, Bob Reber took the time to explain all aspects of what is causing the mold in our crawl space. His explanation was consistent with the mold testing specialist/microbiologist we hired. The options for turning our crawl space into a mini basement were in-line with what our microbiologist said. The installation team was great to work with. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and respectful of our property. They cleaned up all the post project debris too. We’re very happy with our fully enclosed crawl space that doubles as lock-and-key storage. We highly recommend the entire Basement Repair Specialists team."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Most standard windows can accommodate solar screens, but specialty shapes or non-standard frames may require custom solutions. It’s important to consult with a professional to ensure compatibility and proper fit for unique window designs. Arched, bay, and fabricated windows often need fabricated screens, which can increase costs and lead time.

Among the various entry points into your residence, it's crucial to recognize that your basement windows are arguably the most susceptible. Basements usually have windows facing the side and back yards, often concealed from driveway floodlights, porch lighting, and doorbell cameras. Their vulnerability underscores the importance of reinforcing basement window security to safeguard your home from break-ins.

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.
