"My attic was poorly ventilated — damp, musty, and overdue for attention. After deciding to bring in a professional, Randy came out to my home, thoroughly assessed the problem areas, and put together a detailed quote on the spot. The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. I couldn't be happier with the results. I've already noticed a meaningful improvement in temperature consistency and overall comfort throughout my home. If you're looking for a trustworthy, professional insulation contractor, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Paragon Insulation & Services."

"I called 5 Insulation companies for estimates in Oct.2025, when we were having other work done to our home & discovered we had No insulation between the studs. USA 🇺🇸 Insulation was the most expensive but they were the most thorough during the sales process, as far as explaining how everything was to be done & showed me photos. They were the ONLY company that offered the blown in expansion Insulation. Which is what made the job a little more costly, but they used the best product because it doesn't settle over time, which to me made it worth it. They came on Dec.15th which was a VERY cold day, with a 4 man crew, each with a specialized task, (Foreman, siding removal, hole driller, foam insertion). They were very professional, answered all my questions, cleaned up my property when done & did a heat camera procedure that showed me how the walls were cold before hand & were already warming by end of job. I highly recommend this company to anyone needing to have this done."

"We reached out to Dan with the issue of freezing pipes and cold rooms in our old house. Dan inspected the house and proposed a plan to remedy these issues. Aside from the more traditional air sealing and insulation solutions, Dan also recommended insulating the area of our house above our soffit, which was difficult to access but that appeared to be a major insulation issue. I should add the other firms we requested quotes for did not identify this area in their proposal. I firmly believe the proposals from the other firms would not have fixed our issues. Dan worked for ~2 weeks on air sealing our attic and house, adding insulation to our attic, removing our soffit and adding insulation and reinstalling soffit. Work was done well and within budget and at a fair price. Dan is very easy to work with and takes pride in his work. We are very happy to report our pipes have not frozen and the cold rooms are no longer cold - would highly recommend Dan to others - he went above and beyond."

"We had tried several times (including our painter trying) to get the 2 solar rings on our high ceilings removed so that we could clean inside the solar windows. Nobody could figure out how to get the rings loose. I finally used Angie's List to find someone who may be
able to help get the rings off.  I spoke with Art and he and his partner were able to come out on the same day I called. (They had an installation cancelation due to snow.) What they determined (and showed me) was that the rings were screwed in to the drywall (from the roof) when the house was constructed. After laying drop cloths down and making sure they had protected the carpeting and furniture, the very carefully managed to get at the screws in order to get the rings off without ruining our drywall,  paint or ceiling. I had never really liked the cheap plastic white rings that were in the house when we bought it.  Art had several new styles with him
that I could choose from.  Before putting the new caps back on, they straightened and reparied the tubes, wipe them down and made them look brand new.  The solar lights/tubes look amazing now.  Thanks guys.  Great job!

"Went great..we chose parco windows, mastic siding with versetta stone accent on the front. The stone was a first for Schloesser Construction so the researched 1st and came prepared. The did a wonderful job and we are very please. Mike was diplomatic in guiding us with our choices and helped us make solid choices. Very pleased with quality, looks of the work/products. Steve and his crew were fantastic as well. Sorry for all the wasps guys."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

The time it takes for thinset to dry is determined by your room’s ambient temperature and humidity levels. Assuming the average humidity level is around 40% with an average temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, thinset can dry within 48 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity can extend the curing process beyond 72 hours, while high heat and zero humidity can shorten the curing process. However, thinset can crack if it dries too fast.

Yes, it matters which side of drywall you use. One side is smooth, and the other is rough. The smooth side should be facing outward, toward the room, while the rough side should be hidden and facing the studs and framing of the house. The smooth side will be easier to apply tape, joint compound, and, later, paint to.
