"Saunders installed a bath exhaust fan and light as well as attic insulation for us. Very professional and efficient - a timely installation, performed very soon after contract was written. Great people to work with and great cleanup after. Highly recommend. Also Home Advisor worked well; contact was made within hours of submission."

"The three men involved in the installation were courteous, professional, knowledgeable and efficient.  The entire project was done within about 3 hours and the results are absolutely amazing!  We LOVE the light these Solatubes provide and may get one or two more. I wish we'd done this sooner!

"Went great..we chose parco windows, mastic siding with versetta stone accent on the front. The stone was a first for Schloesser Construction so the researched 1st and came prepared. The did a wonderful job and we are very please. Mike was diplomatic in guiding us with our choices and helped us make solid choices. Very pleased with quality, looks of the work/products. Steve and his crew were fantastic as well. Sorry for all the wasps guys."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Depending on the item, several different materials are beneficial for long-term storage. Bubble wrap and plastic wrap help ensure delicate ceramics or furniture are safe and secure. High-quality moving boxes made of durable materials like plastic also help ensure the longevity of your storage, as cardboard will degrade faster over time.

The primary purpose of insulation is to maintain comfortable temperatures in a home, whether that’s cool air when it’s hot out, or warm air in winter, but that’s not all it can do. All options will also minimize heating and cooling needs, lowering both your carbon footprint and energy bills in turn. And some options, like rigid foam boards, even offer soundproofing benefits, too.

Yes, it is possible to have too much insulation, which can have detrimental effects. While more insulation might seem better for energy efficiency, a home needs to "breathe" or ventilate to release moisture that accumulates inside. Over-insulating can seal a house too tightly, trapping water vapor and leading to several problems, including mold, mildew, and condensation. Homes in warm, humid climates are particularly susceptible to mold, while those in colder climates can experience condensation from temperature fluctuations. Additionally, adding more insulation than the recommended amount for your climate may not provide recoverable energy savings. To avoid these issues, consult a professional insulation contractor who can determine the optimal amount of insulation for your home.

The best R-value for home insulation depends on where you live and where you’re installing the insulation. Your climate zone plays the biggest role in determining the correct R-value, so be sure to know which zone you live in when determining the R-value you need.

Heavily exceeding building code requirements for insulation not only wastes money on materials but can also lead to ventilation and moisture problems. In most cases, the minimum amount of insulation required by code is perfectly adequate.
