Dan has been pumping septic systems for 48 years and his son, Scott has been pumping septic systems for 27 years, with the exception of 4 years when he proudly served his country in the United States Marines. We take pride in our work. Here are some signs to look for that may mean you need your septic system pumped: If your toilet is backing up. Your sewer smells. Gurgling sounds in your drains. Slow drains in your sink, bathtub, and/or toilets. Your drainfield is ponding. What we do: We pump out your septic tank, backwash it, and clean the filter. If you have a lift tank we also pump that. Preventive Care: *Dont wash more than one load of laundry a day. It is too hard on your septic system. *Fix any leaking toilets or faucets. *Plumb your water softener backwash cycle outside, not into your septic tank. Otherwise it will kill all of the bacteria in your tank. It is legal to do this. *Do not plant any trees or shrubs around or on your septic, drainfield, or mound systems. Do NOT put any of these items down your sinks or toilets: Facial tissues, wipes, sanitary products, disposable diapers, Q-tips, dental floss, condoms, cigarette butts, cat litter, egg shells, cooking grease, paint, chemicals, or coffee grinds. Use very little bleach. It is required by Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire County to have your septic pumped and inspected every 3 years. This is good maintenance for your septic system.

"Valley Septic came on time, was very knowledgeable of all cleaning functions. I was very impressed with their service. They are a very honest company with high integrity."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It’s true: Thanksgiving is known as one of the busiest days of the year for plumbers. The day after Thanksgiving is also a jam-packed day, as people reckon with the issues caused by pushing too much turkey meat down the garbage disposal or other plumbing problems. If you run into a plumbing emergency during Thanksgiving, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that plenty of plumbers work on Thanksgiving due to the uptick in demand.

Clearing typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on the blockage size and location.

Thankfully, it’s pretty rare to find a rat in your toilet. It’s more likely in larger cities with big sewer systems that can be feeding grounds for rats, but even then, you still shouldn’t fret.

“I wouldn’t worry too much about rats coming up through the sewers,” Bradshaw says. “I’d say only one out of a thousand rodent customers we get actually have this problem. And of the 20 or some customers that have had this happen, they’ve all only had just one rat come up this way.”

It might be possible to dissolve hair caught in a drain, but it’s usually not a good way to go about clearing the clog. Some sources mention that baking soda and vinegar can do the trick, but this won’t actually dissolve the hair. The hydrochloric acid in drain cleaners can dissolve the hair over time, but it will much more quickly destroy your plumbing pipes and leave you with bigger issues. The best way to remove hair is to do it manually with a drain snake or to have a plumber use an auger to pull clogs out.

Sometimes, the drain is just too clogged—thanks, stubborn hair and soap scum. In this case, you’ll need a more powerful drain cleaner than you can DIY safely at home. But this doesn’t mean you have to choose a traditional drain cleaner.

You can find biodegradable drain cleaners at your local home improvement store or online for those drains that need a little more oomph

While on the hunt for a formidable drain cleaner, the best options are non-chemical clog solutions that combine enzymes and bacteria.
