"After experiencing flood damage, I hired Tony to repair drywall, install vinyl planking, and restore trim. From start to finish, he was professional, prompt, and fair. I really appreciated the software he used—it clearly outlined the scope of work, timelines, and deposits which made the entire process transparent and stress-free. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality workmanship."

"Love the service from Window Genie! This was my second service and had my windows cleaned in and out, along with power washing of my patio, deck and porch. Kyle did a fabulous job; my patio looks brand new, the porch and deck was not only cleaned but Kyle took care of the railings also. Windows are spotless. Kyle was prompt, courteous and conscientious of my home,"

"I was extremely pleased with the two men who worked on my fence project. Arrived on time, very pleasant, didn't waste any time and did a great job. Were very conscientious not to damage any flowers and shrubs that were next to the fence. Cleaned up all the debris that was left and hsuled it away. Only evidence that they were here is a nicely repaired fence."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The life expectancy of deck boards varies widely based on the material, climate, and maintenance. Untreated wood boards typically last 10 to 30 years with proper care, while pressure-treated boards can last up to 50 years. Hardwoods generally outlast softwoods. Composite boards also tend to last longer than natural wood. Environmental factors like arid or humid climates can shorten a deck's lifespan. To extend the life of wood decking, it's important to consistently clean and seal it to protect against moisture, UV light, and insects.

Yes. Composite decking is resistant to moisture and freezing temperatures, so it’s an ideal material to use in particularly cold or damp seasons. You can install this type of decking throughout the year since it does not warp or split in the cold.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.
