"The project went well, they did a good job, they cleaned up and finished in a very timely fashion. There was one issue where a roofer fell off the roof, damaging both my vehicle and the gutter, both which were fixed/repaired to my satisfaction. Sometimes things happen, but it’s how it’s dealt with that defines a company and their customer service. I have decided to hire them again to completely replace my siding. I’ll leave a review after the project completes."

"this is the second time we've had john's painting do work for us. both jobs turned out perfect. we could not be happier. the work was done when he said it would be and finished when he said it would be. when the work was done the only way you could tell he was there were the rooms where a different color. john's does outstanding work, very reasonable, and very professional. would never consider using any one else."

I found two companies in her area that looked good. she called both and only one took her call and thank the lord that was the right choice?Jas took her call made appt for Saturday to come look at job and on Sunday not even a scheduled day of work for them they showed up at my moms at 8:00am -5:00 . My mother called me every hour to let me know how happy she is and they were doing a fabulous job I can't say enough about the joy they brought me by doing a great job and my mom is happy once again and that now she has a yard crew she will be able to count on in the very near future .I think she is going to use them a couple times a month as requires her to... Thanks again for the fantastic job ...... Laurie in Alaska

"Justin was very professional, fast, easy to work with and did a great job. He made sure to ask questions for clarification of what we wanted and to point out any issues he saw while he was working on our basement. We were very pleased with the work he did."

"I hired Everlast to put up my new ceiling fan, and the entire process couldn’t have been easier. The owner himself, David, came out to ensure things went smoothly, and they did a fantastic job installing it. Shortly after, I hired them again to replace my mother’s light fixtures. I highly recommend Everlast to anyone in need of quality, simple, and convenient installation services!"

"I had Sebastian come out and build me a Trex platform deck in my back yard off the patio for barbecuing and extra hangout space. He made my vision come to life and his timeliness and quality of work will make me hire Six Point Contracting again. I definitely recommend these guys if you’re looking for a quality job done within budget."

"Within an hour of locating T&C Contracting on Angie's list on a Saturday, Tim was at my home to give me a free estimate. I immediately felt comfortable in speaking with him that he was the contractor for me. By Monday the house and roof had been power washed and the roof is looking great. the next Monday Tim and his crew were back to start prepping and painting the house and by Wednesday it as completed and looking great. To me this is impressive considering the amount of prep work needed to even start painting from scraping, priming, removal and re-sealing windows and doors and fixing and replacing door toe kicks and building out a window ledge on a window that never had one! And I cannot forget my bad choice of a trim color that Tim readily took to have re-tinted and which now is the color and look that I imagined. Oh yes, and all of this at a very reasonable price! I have already discussed having T&C Contracting back soon to look into doing some other work I am planning on having done. Thanks again Tim and Crew!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.
