We take great pride in our experience, expertise, quality, and customer service that we provide to meet the consumer’s needs. It is our mission to provide excellent workmanship and complete customer satisfaction from start to completion of a project. In order to understand the needs and expectations of our customers, we take great care to work and communicate with every customer in a professional manner. Our reputation is based on service, safety, and quality, regardless of how large or small the job.

"This company does not value its customers. I chose NW Builders and Renovations because I liked the design ideas proposed by the sales person/project manager who came to my house for the initial consultation. I was adding a bathroom to the second floor of my house and he had great ideas about the tile selection and I believed saw my vision. After that point, everything about the experience was terrible. The project manager pressured me to sign an agreement on the spot that day. I did not and thought this was suspect but ultimately I still went with them a few days later because I agreed with his vision. I was told the project would start in a few weeks time, and I had made a point of saying that time was of the essence because I had planned to rent this home in a few months. The project did not start for nearly two months. During this time I repeatedly asked for a start date and was rebuffed. Then out of no where, they asked if they could start in two days time. This was problematic because this project would create considerable disruption and I had not yet made plans for other living arrangements. I ended up allowing them to start and just moving to my basement. I agreed to get the project going, they showed up and demoed the room that would become a bathroom, and then they did not show up again for nearly another two weeks. Even in doing the demolition work, they were wildly disrespectful of my house; failing to put up plastic to limit the disbursement of dust and dropping pieces of a demolished wall directly on to a carpet. When they did show up again, they asked for a considerable sum of money beyond the initial down payment. I refused as at this point it seemed like this company might actually just be a scam. I continued to deal with them because I had given them a large enough down payment that I wanted to get at least something in return. They hired out the plumbing to a qualified subcontractor and things looked like they were turning up. I had to fight with the subcontractor to install the plumbing in a way that was both compliant and made sense for the space available; originally, he wanted to do an installation that would save him several hundred dollars but would have resulted in the need to drop the entire ceiling of my kitchen by a foot, which made no sense, and which was not something that had been mentioned when I signed on for this project. Eventually they got the job done right. One of the biggest issues with this company is that they did not actually do any project management. They would not even provide oversight or grant access to the property for the sub contractors as needed. For this reason, I ended up spending nearly 2 1/2 months working from home which was problematic for my job. While I was working from home, on several occasion, I identified issues in terms of short cuts they were taking that would not have been discoverable after the walls were closed up; so it was only a result of my being home and providing oversight that I prevented future issues. The list of problems is honestly too long to list in the allotted space granted here. But the biggest concerns are the fact that they were extremely abrasive and disrespectful, wildly behind schedule, and failed to provide any oversight. When the project was complete, I was generally happy with the bathroom--it came out as we discussed initially, but only because I had to push the project along, catch mistakes as they were happening, and ensure that I was getting my monies worth. A few months out from the completion of the project, I have discovered that the bidet they installed was hardwired into a circuit for my bedroom outlets, contrary to code, and the bidet which is a wall anchored appliance is sagging because they did not add sufficient structural support. I am not going to even try to have them fix it as I would never work with this company again."

FAQs for contractor service projects in Steilacoom, WA

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.

General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:

  • Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew

  • Provide realistic cost estimates

  • Develop construction timelines

  • Ensure deadlines are met

  • Acquire permits as needed

  • Purchase supplies and materials

Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:

  • Which types of insurance do you carry?

  • Can you provide a list of references?

  • What is the expected timeline for this project?

  • How will my project be supervised?

  • Will you hire subcontractors for the job?

  • What is the best way to communicate changes?

  • Will you obtain all of the required building permits?

While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
