"Very easy company to work with, would hire them again. The crew came around eight in the morning and finished our roof that day. Our roof looks great and they cleaned up like they were never here. Veery good company."

"Choosing IBEX to replace my roof was the right one for me. Working with Kyle, Johnny and their crew has been top notch and very professional from the beginning. I wanted to replace two old skylights and Johnny went out of his way to see that the new ones were exactly what I wanted. Everything from the first bid to the work itself was explained very clearly and in a timely manner. I didn't feel pressured at all! I would recommend IBEX to anybody who's looking for a roofing contractor. They were great!"

"They were great to work with. We came to them late summer for this job and they were able to complete it before the hard rain came! Would use them again and recommend them. Even with unforeseen issues that came up as the old roof came off. Very happy with our new roof!"

"Shane came and took pictures of the roof from the inside of the attic. Most revealing. Shane found that there were several area's that had been leaking but had not yet leaked inside house itself. The baffles were a mess but had kept the rain from penetrating further. I'm so happy to have my new roof. I won't have to worry about it leaking now. The workers were a delight to work with as well. They were all very professional and knowledgeable. I now have the best roof in the area!!!! They were all very professional and knowledgeable."

"Dale did an amazing job on my custom outdoor building! He built custom barn doors that I had requested, used quality materials for siding and accents and even installed a window. It took less than two weeks from start to finish I couldn't believe how fast he got it up! It was the best outdoor building in the whole HOA and everyone had to ask who built it because the work was such quality! I'm hiring him again to reside the whole front of my new home, dormers, roofing, and replacing insulation."

"Elias Contruction provided a detailed estimate after inspecting the roof and making some qualified recommendations. The project required a few change orders that were not clarified in writing. I would recommend hiring Elias if you get changes in writing. They cleaned up pretty well although they missed a few things due to finishing in the dark. Overall satisfied with the job and cost was 60% of other bids due to sheathing adjustment."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.

Architectural shingles typically last between 20 and 30 years, though most homeowners should plan on replacing them every 20 to 25 years. While some manufacturers offer warranties for 30 to 50 years, especially for extreme weather, achieving such a long lifespan is rare. The actual lifespan can be shorter in areas prone to strong winds, hailstorms, or other extreme weather. It is recommended to replace your roof before it reaches the end of its life to reduce the risk of roof failure, leaks, and costly property damage. Scheduling regular roof inspections will help you determine your roof's remaining life and identify the best timeline for replacement.

Yes, shingles should overhang the drip edge, typically between 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. An overhang shorter than 1/2-inch can allow wind-driven rain to get under the shingles and damage the roof deck or fascia. Conversely, an overhang longer than 3/4-inch increases the risk of shingles getting caught by strong winds, which can lead to roof uplift. Always check your local building code for exact overhang requirements in your area.

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.

More and more insurance companies are writing torch down applications out of their liability insurance for contractors. If torch down is covered, they generally require a worker to stay on site for two hours after the last flame is extinguished.

For this reason, cold application modified bitumen—also known as “peel and stick”—is becoming more popular, and torch down is decreasing in popularity. Modified bitumen is taking its place, as it uses both hot and cold applications.
